I LOVE Sophie’s dress. She wears such gorgeous clothes. Think they went a bit too heavy on her make up though. Agree with all of this! Also, I'm not sure about those shoes...but she's stunning anyway, so "I'll allow it!" I like the shoes. 😁 It’s just the make up I give the 👎🏻 to. It’s way too heavy. Not her usual understated style which suits her much better. But the dress is sublime!

I think Sophie wears the heavier makeup whenever she wears red. It’s such a strong colour that the makeup has to be strong, too.
I remember when my sister and I got our “colours” done many years ago, when that was a popular thing to do. It turns out that I’m a summer and my sister is a winter. They’re both cool colours, but we learned that only winters can wear black (summers get denim, though, so it evens out!). But they also told us that anyone can wear any colour, of course, but when it’s worn near your face, adjustments have to be made to your makeup or it won’t look very flattering.

I love the shoes! I wore platforms like that way back in the 1970s. It's rapidly becoming clear (given my recent opinion on Ryan's trousers) that I have no fashion sense whatsoever! I think it's fair to say any opinion I have on people's outfits should just be disregarded outright! 😂 😂 😂

I just think it looks a bit too much this time. Anyway the rest of the ensemble is fab. I got my colours done a few years back. I can’t remember what I was. But I remember being told cream suits me better than white and that’s true. As my skin is so pale (think Irish people must be the whitest people in the world! 😁) I didn’t think I would be suited to strong colours but it turned out that some reds suit me and I can wear black.

I still have the little booklet somewhere of swatches they gave me with all the colours I should wear.
Winters, like my sister, can wear the “truest” colours - the reddest red, the whitest white - the purest form of the colours. Summers, like me, can wear those same colours, but faded versions. They said to imagine those winter colours hanging on a clothesline in the hot summer sunshine, where they would fade.
And they told me I was colouring my hair all wrong. Ha!

Back in the late 80s when I got it done, it was so popular that there was even a chain of Colours kiosks in the malls to buy the makeup they recommend when you have your colours session. And it was expensive! My sister booked for us for my birthday, I think. And it took a couple of hours each to do, so we spent a whole afternoon there.
The first thing they did was cover your hair and have you remove any makeup you’re wearing. Then you sat in front of a mirror and they draped hundreds of different coloured fabrics in front of you and explained why it looked good or bad. All the fabric colours that we agreed looked good were put aside, and they determined I was a summer. Then they made a little book of swatches for me to take. The book included which furs to wear (really!) and jewelry (silver, white gold, platinum). Again, the colours only refer to anything worn near your face, so I could keep my black pants - thank goodness!
Your skin’s undertones determine if you’re a warm (spring and autumn) or cool (summer and winter) colour. If you look good in jewel tones, you’re probably a spring (the colours look brand new). For autumn, they said to think of the colour of autumn leaves. They said most redheads are autumns.
At the end, they did our makeup and, of course, they hoped we would then buy what they put on us. I think I bought the lipstick. When all that was done, they uncovered my hair and told me that the colour was all wrong because it was a “warm” colour. I needed to use a cool “ash” colour.
I actually did make a few changes after that day! Cover Girl used to display their lipsticks by seasons back then, so it was easy to try a few different summer shades to find the ones I liked. I still use those lipstick shades, even though CG no longer arranges them by season. I also switched the hair colours I use to “ash” colours - which really are much more flattering. And I started wearing brown! I had always disliked brown, other than maybe wearing brown pants. But I took a big step and bought a brown suit. I don’t think I’ve ever had so many compliments for anything I’ve ever worn. I gradually added lots of brown items to my wardrobe.
