This is hysterical, I’m actually just reading this article because I didn’t read beyond that paragraph when I posted it this morning and I just noticed this, That’s not the MPAA rating! That’s the mock rating posted by the NYT in their review! They always write funny warnings in their reviews as a joke! But yeah, I have seem a few innocent souls falling for those recently! Mostly people easily offended who think the MPAA or teh NYT are really scandalized by mundane stuff!

The comparison between Old Henry and The Power of the Dog isn't good. I didn't watch Old Henry but the plot I read has shootings, violent deaths. The only thing they have in common is that they're westerns?

Their theory is basically that people around the world though it was a violent movie because apparently “period” films like TPOTD and The Last Dual are violent. And people like to watch violent films at home! I think an alternative could be that older adults aren’t going to movie theatre these days and films like The Last Dual that failed in the box office could become hits on steaming service and VOD instead. They mention that prestige Netflix films very rarely make to the Top Ten. I knew that Mank was only one day and only in the #10 spot because award pundits frequently repeat it on Twitter! I don’t know about other films. I’m searching for info! They claim the exception was The Irishman. Anyway here is today Top Tens around the world. TPOTD is 4th globally and was the number one film in multiple territories (USA, Mexico, Canada, France and Netherlands) www.whats-on-netflix.com/most-popular/?dateselect=12%2F02%2F2021

I guess these headlines are helpful even when they aren’t very relevant sites,

The Indiewire headline and article with the “there’s one random thing” these 2 releases have in common just smacked of those clickbait/spam links about “one secret rule” or “one simple trick”
I think the one thing was “recognized cast members” but there are plenty of films with famous faces that don’t draw crowds so 🤷♀️

I'm glad it is doing well on Netflix. There were only 3 other people in the theater with me.

I'm glad it is doing well on Netflix. There were only 3 other people in the theater with me. It’s the only movie I’ve seen, so I can’t compare the number of people there (maybe 20?) to any other movie. It was playing at an independent theatre and not at a multiplex. It was showing twice a day for a week. And Covid is still happening, so people aren’t flocking to theatres. I didn’t think it was a bad sign that so few people were there - I actually thought I’d be the only one! In the past, in pre-pandemic times, I remember going to movies (matinees) with my sister, and we were the only ones there. We asked one time whether they still play the movie if the audience is empty, and they said yes! The best time we ever had was when we were the only ones in the audience seeing Dead Again. I loved that movie! We talked about it out loud as we were watching it as if we were sitting at home tv. It was great!

It falls to #4 here in Mexico but at least it's still there. Again supposedly Mank was only one day last year and on #10. We will see how it did around the world.

It’s #4 on Netflix in Canada today.
I’m annoyed with Netflix right now because there was an update to the app on my iPad yesterday, and now TPOTD is no longer on My List, no matter how many times I try to add it. But it’s also not listed with new releases. The only place it shows up is under Continue Watching. When I click on it, it shows that it’s at #4.
And the Top Ten in Canada list is no longer showing, either. Who asked Netflix to make those changes??
It might work differently on my tv, though. I haven’t checked yet.
