You don’t have to hide spoilers here! That was the whole reason to have this thread.

Thank you but I’m thoroughly spoiled anyway (just ask my mom, lol), and I don’t mind. Two more hours! I don’t know if I can stay up. Maybe I should take a nap and wake up in a few hours. It doesn’t start until 1 am here and it’s 2 hours long. What to do, what to do…

Damn! That was awesome. Tragic. Nail biting. Incredible. Beautiful, like an empty circle that gets filled in by the end. I loved it.
I’ll have more to say later after it settles. It’s almost 3:30 am here and I’ve got to get some sleep. But WOW. 😳

I finished it a little while ago, and it's true - you REALLY need to sit for a while and gather your thoughts. Anddd I'm going to continue doing that, lol. I'm genuinely overwhelmed.

I’m so relieved you liked it. I was getting really worried there! I’ll be wanting to hear every little opinion about every little bit of it - eventually. I know it takes a while to take it all in.
I searched back to September when I saw it at TIFF, and here’s what I wrote:

Ok, I've recovered, lol. After eating dinner and going back to rewatch certain scenes because they would not leave my mind.
Some people have used the word "haunting" and I have to agree. It's haunting me because I feel like I just witnessed the worst moments of all 4 of these characters' lives, and now I'm carrying their secrets with me. It's weird because I read the book, and found it thrilling and smart and actually not depressing, but Campion focused instead on the tragedy.
There was a review I read a while back that said that BC "refuses to let you categorize him", and I found that true. He showed a different side of Phil every time he was on screen. After I finished the movie and took a long moment to myself, I rewatched his outburst in the barn twice. He's so good at those, LOL.
Interesting you weren't sold on Kodi, jbc! Personally I found him a delight. I loved how he squeaked whenever he was scared!
Also, I'm kind of gobsmacked by how all these previous watchers kept saying "it's SUPER slow paced, nothing happens for the first hour, etc". Maybe it's because I overprepared for that, or because I read the book, but I found it perfectly paced. I felt like something was going on every moment?
I think I might watch the whole thing again tomorrow, in fact. I want to be able to watch the first 2 chapters in a new light.
My one complaint? Turns out I'm in the camp that finds the Greenwood score a little overbearing 🤭 Will make for a great independent listen, though!

Now that you mention it, when I saw it at TIFF the music did seem over loud and overpowering at times, probably because the movie itself is so quiet in comparison. But I have to say that when I’ve re-watched it, the music isn’t an issue anymore. I’m not sure why that is. Maybe by now the music is just another detail in the scene and they belong together? If that makes any sense!

Aw thank you jbc! Hehe. Writing one's feelings out about this movie almost feels like therapy. I think the aural experience is so hard to get just right. I most enjoyed the quiet bits, where you could hear Phil's steps or the match being struck. Those sounds echoed and set a real atmosphere. Now that you both mention it, I'm starting to wonder if it's just my TV that was the issue. Maybe I'll think differently about the score on rewatch.
