That's exactly why I liked it too. Other critics who are snarky about BC's career make it sound like he actively only chooses "stodgy biopics" (even though they're not his only work), here he underlines that it's a problem with what kind of scripts/projects Hollywood greenlights: biopics, popcorn flicks, cookie-cutter roles. That's what's so great about auteurs like Jane!

Jane Campion is an educated viewer. She knows BC's work. How many of these "critics" have actually watched Parade's End? Or Patrick Melrose? Both mentioned by Campion. They don't watch anything beyond what Film Twitter tells them it's cool or not. That's the difference between an Amy Taubin or Manohla Dargis with your random Internet "critic" full of prejudices and uninformed.

I think the AFI list can be counted as an award. It’s kinda relevant but again Don’t Look Up which wasn’t very nicely received by critics it’s there! Lol
I saw a funny Twitter thread below a tweet in which someone listed the films but forgot to put TPOTD. The super “smart” award fanboys were saying that it meant that both TPOTD and Belfast were now out of competition and surely wouldn’t receive too many Oscars nominations! *Facepalm* I don’t care for Belfast but I still wrote in the other thread that it received a special award along with Squid Game because both weren’t eligible! I didn’t wanted to gave the impression that it was ignored because it was the opposite. They REALLY wanted to included it even when it was against their own rules! But again, award pundits believe what they want to believe!

This tweet shows a scene that wasn’t in the movie!

Glad they loved him but if you found him "distant" before then you really doesn't know him as actor. The reason he was cast as Phil in the first place by Jane Campion was because he emotes a lot with so little and all the vulnerability he can suggests.
EDITED That's the difference between a great artist who can understand performances and superficial critics full of prejudices against actors based in who they are instead of what they really do.

I think both were great but TBH I probably would go for Plemons. His character isn’t very interesting nor has the surprising ending that KSM character has but he gave it a lot of dignity, weariness and oblivious.
I listened part of his WTF episode. Sadly he gave Moran the reason in his argument with BC! Yeah, the guy making to take sides! Lol He thinks George indeed knew that his brother was gay and had a sexual relationship with Bronco Henry and that he felt sorry for him. I don’t think people would be so progressive then but I found interesting that he says that he didn’t wanted to play that dumb character until Campion told his that he wasn’t dumb and that everything in the book was from Phil point of view! He said she mentioned Robert Duvall and he suddenly was interested for George.
