Hey, hon. No, I’m American through and through, but I have 2 brothers who live in England, I’ve been there a number of times and love it dearly, and I also thought since they’re Sherlock stories it would be appropriate to use a British style of writing. So I used British spellings and tried to adopt some British phraseology.
You should read the mess I’m making of Irish culture right now with the current story I’m writing! (Don’t tell Ellie - she’ll prolly murder me, lol.) I guess if I ever finish it you can read it. Haha!

Don’t hold your breath, lol. It’s giving me PROBLEMS. It’s an AU in 1903 Dingle where Molly is a spinster and Sherlock literally falls on her doorstep after being brutally attacked and wakes up with…wait for it…amnesia! I know! It’s a horrible trope and I’ve run into issues because how would Sherlock be/act if he didn’t know who he was? How does one write a Sherlock who is not Sherlock? So I’m kind of exploring a tabula rosa, what makes a person who they are, notions of nature vs. nurture, how malleable are they to change, etc., all while trying to write a sweet, angsty love story.
Plus, it’s rural Ireland and I know *nothing* about farming or life back in the day without electricity and other modern conveniences, not to mention the issue of Catholicism. Plus I’m having to craft about 35 original characters of various importance which is fun but also difficult.
I’m beginning to think I’ve bitten off more than I can chew but I love the few chapters I’ve written so far (about 15,000 words). I just don’t want to go too broad with the accents and make bad Irish stereotypes and that’s making me nervous now.
Thanks for listening to me kvetch! Writing is hard sometimes and involves a lot of overthinking, lol. 🤗

Ya, I keep at it. I’ve been talking to my cat in an Irish accent for a couple of months now, so that helps 😂

Do you do anything with your writing, other than post it online? The reason I ask is that I’ve always loved writing and it was one of those things I dreamed of doing for a living (I didn’t!). But I find it difficult to begin unless I have a purpose. I think I got so used to writing for school/university that now I don’t know what to write unless it’s given to me as an assignment. If you write just for fun, do you set yourself goals for completing something, or do you just write when you feel like it? (I haven’t read any of your writing yet, but I’m sure it’s great!)

Obviously, you're going to keep at it! I meant to offer encouragement but realise now that my phrasing was not good. No no, it’s very helpful! The encouragement is nice and that’s the way I took it. Thank you! 🤗

I just post online on Ao3, since it’s all fanfic now, and all for fun. I did have an article printed in Piecework magazine about a decade ago. They asked me to write something which was very gratifying. I had a bunch of my grandmother’s tatting shuttles which were made by my grandfather in the 1950s (absolute treasures, the little things), and then I found another 75 of them on eBay! All in a lot so I negotiated her for them and bought them all. The magazine heard about that (can’t remember how), and asked me to write a few pages about them so I did. I don’t set goals in writing, I just hack away at it when I can and when I have the impetus to write.

It’s not bothering me when you like them, lol. 🤗 I suppose if you got on here and said I suck and who do I think I am trying to write anything, it might not be so pleasant. 😉
Numb was supposed to be a much longer story but I kind of stalled, so I just whipped it together (pun intended) and threw it up there and I think it came out okay. It does have a story arc and gets a bit contemplative in places, which is a must for me. Plus, of course, it has Sherlock in physical and emotional pain. If you think the Giver is Irene, then it’s Irene. 👍🏼
Thank you for reading my stories (and for liking them!) It’s so gratifying and is a wonderful Christmas present.

OK, now that my deadline crafting has passed, I can now set my more selfish goals. I have two. 1. Watch the entire MCU in order before May. Because reasons. And, 2. Only stitch on one of these two projects while watching these shows or until I hit 10,000 stitches on each. The blue project is Tea (Sherlock drinking tea) and the second one is a black and white Sandman (Neil Gaiman's character as portrayed by Medusa Dollmaker). 10,000 stitches on Sherlock might get me partially through his face, since 100 stitches is in each of those tiny squares). SherlockSandmanBTW, once I find my Doctor Who shawl, I shall post it there. I can't seem to find where I stored it!
