Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedHappy Xmas to all! From our house to everyone on this board!!Dan and I had our traditional Christmas dinner earlier this week because it was the only time we could get together with my sister and her husband. We ate turkey and all the fixings, had a great afternoon and opened our gifts to each other and they stayed overnight. They both have been vaxxed and boostered (and Dan and I have been pretty isolated) so we decided to risk them coming. As for actual Xmas tomorrow, we will be by ourselves. I'm cooking a prime rib. Never done one for Xmas but I think it will be nice. Hope everyone here will have a safe and happy holiday. Dan and I go to get our booster shots on January 3rd, so by my birthday we'll be better protected. BTW: the other good news is I got all my test results back and had a phone consult with my doctor and everything seems fine. Blood work, chest xrays and EKG all came back in excellent shape! So that helps a great deal in putting my mind at ease. It's a nice feeling and I'm running with it! 👍

We’ve been living through a messy construction situation the past three weeks, so the Christmas decorating has been greatly reduced this year! I put up a tiny tree, though, featuring my Grinch ornament! Have a Very Merry Christmas! View AttachmentLooks wonderful mllemass! I remember one year we had our kitchen totally gutted and the contractors promised it would be done well before Xmas (it was started in early October!) and they finished up 6 pm Xmas eve. That year we had reeeeeeally sparce Xmas decorations (just a table top wooden tree) because the whole house was in disarray (and everything was covered in plaster dust too (despite them trying to protect against that happening). Sometimes you just hot to go with the flow and say "OK, we're moving on from this!". LOL!

The construction mess has been mostly outside, and they supposedly finished two days ago, but we keep having to call them back to deal with some issues. At this very moment, my father is waiting for the contractor to show up (he’s 15 minutes late so far) so he can point out what they’ll have to fix or re-do before we hand over the rest of the money.
We’ve been waiting since September for this work to be done, ever since our basement flooded twice within a couple of weeks. My father decided to hire this contractor he knows who had explained to us the work that had to be done (saying it was “expensive”). It was near the end of October when he finally gave us an estimate, and we were anxious for the work to begin. We were told it would be in the next two weeks, in ten days, next week - and still no one showed up. Meanwhile, I felt like I was chained to the house because I had to be there whenever they did begin.
They started the work December 5 - the day of our first snowfall. They worked for two days, and then stopped because it was too cold for their machines to start. There was nothing for the next three days, and then the weather warmed up enough for it to rain - and our basement flooded yet again! While they were doing work to prevent flooding from happening! I phoned the contractor and told him I was standing in two inches of water. He sent over one of his workers with a shop vac to help out. The guy was shocked at what he saw! He does that work for a living and had never seen that much water in an basement. I’m furious that the whole time, they thought I had been exaggerating and overreacting about a “damp” basement. But I’m grateful that the workman was able to verify that the basement was, indeed flooded and not merely damp. The contractor believed him, thank goodness, and brought in every worker and machine he had. We were now a priority!
(The contractor is finally here! I’m not going outside, but I can just imagine my father yelling at him!)
Although they dug up one whole side of our house and waterproofed it, they didn’t actually discover a hole big enough to let in that much water so quickly when it rains. The little cracks in the foundation wouldn’t have been the cause. So it remains a mystery! And it’s supposed to rain tonight and all day tomorrow, so I’m in a constant state of dread that we’ll be flooded again.
(I heard hammering/pounding outside! I wonder what my father had the contractor do?)
The job can’t be finished until next spring, when they’ll return to pave the walkway that they had to tear up, and also replace the lawn in our backyard. At least the white snow will hide all the dirt and mud we have to live with until then.
(Both their cars just drove away!)
Sorry to go on and on about this! Merry Christmas!

UPDATE:
I asked my sister if she could hear my father yelling outside (we usually can, if we’re near a window), but she said no. But, she said, she saw the contractor take a bottle gift bag from his truck when he arrived. So mystery solved! The contractor brought my father a bottle of something, knowing that my father was going to be angry. Smart man! I’ll bet the next time I speak with my father, he’ll tell me that the contractor did a wonderful job. Ha!

A very happy Christmas/Yule/whatever to everyone! I can’t believe we’ve been together so long now, through all kinds of hopes and fears, sharing our lives and supporting each other. Thanks to BC for bringing us all together! What a lovely bunch of people we are. 😂😉
Sorry I haven’t been around much the last few days. I got a Moderna booster on Wednesday and it is kicking my ass! So many aches and pains (on top of the horrible arthritis I’m cursed with), that I can barely move, with headaches, thirst, fever with chills and then sweating, confusion, and general malaise. Today is slightly better than yesterday so I think I’m going to live, lol. I’m glad to have gotten the shot and the strong reaction I had means it’s working, so that’s good. I can’t wait to feel better, tho. I may end up having tinned chicken noodle soup for Christmas dinner but I do have a chocolate silk pie for dessert. 🤤
May I offer each of you a Buddhist prayer for the upcoming year?
May you be happy, May you be healthy, May you be safe, May you live with ease.
Hugs all around, my dear friends! 🤗🙏🏻
