I actually searched for “Michael Palin” to see if his fans were angry that Will Smith is “stealing” not just the name of his show but also the concept and I found these two!
We aren’t too many and we are old but they don’t have idea what this fandom will do to that show!… I’m sure I will think in something! 😉

There’s a slash between Super and Natural, so the names of the two shows aren’t the same at all! Ha!
Do the fans of Supernatural think that the word was invented just for the show?

When I fist read the name of the show, I actually thought it was a documentary about supernatural stuff. You know like ghosts! And I thought it sounded stupid and wondered why BC would be involved with something like it then I read the summary and that Cameron was involved and I thought it sounded great and probably it will be revolutionary in the way it uses technology to film those animals. I didn’t thought on that silly series until llminnowpea mentioned it here!

The Ewan McGregor Long Way Round / motorbike fans will be in an uproar 😉

TBH I haven’t watched the first Will Smith’s documentary so I’m not sure exactly which it’s the format but those celebrities travel documentaries practically invented by Michael Palin depend a lot on the celebrity in question charisma, curiosity and friendliness. Palin was just perfect for them because he is very open and sincere. You can see he was excited by the theme and more important by the new people he was meeting. I can imagine Smith being similar.

I've never watched Palin's show and didn't know it existed. I just found it on youtube, at least some episodes. I like the idea of going from pole to pole.
I once tried to watch the Ewan McGregor one but it bored me, the part I watched was him on a motorbike going through a desert (Chile?).

The things this documentary are supposed to be covering are not supernatural and the gimmicky slash between super and natural...ugh. This just seems like a way to trick kids into watching this show. And, yes, it annoys me because I have spent my life disabusing people of stupid non-science based ideas that they think are science based. Sigh. I would probably be less annoyed if I wasn't annoyed with Renner and Larson and whatever other shitty celebrities also being announced as having shows, too. Is Disney going to be buying Goop and promoting that, too? BAH HUMBUG.

Palin did a lot of travel documentaries! I think a lot of young British people know him mainly for them and not forMonty Python! In the first one he was trying to achieve Phileas Fogg mission of travel around the world in 80 days. It’s lovely because when for example he meets a woman on a train in Japan, instead of doing a formal interview they just chat like two persons from different countries casually meeting: she asked him if he always carry an umbrella because she heard that it rains too much in London and he answered that no, that it indeed rains a lot but he doesn’t mind to get wet. So random but also so lovely and seemingly natural! It’s much much less arty but the attitude is a little like Agnes Varda in her documentaries. You just know the person is lovely and that he or she is someone who loves to meet new people.
I remember that at the end he is running to the place he is supposedly to arrive in London but the locals just doesn’t help him and he angrily concludes that the British are the most rude, less friendly and nasty people in the world! Lol

I don’t think they were trying to trick anyone because I think most of us does not think on that series when we read “super natural” with or without the slash but if some kids are tricked to watch a scientific show then cool!
