Why do I get the distinct impression that Mendelson has it in for DS2, despite trying to appear unbiased. He says it may be unfairly judged when it comes to its BO, but then he heavily hints that Disney/Marvel should be rightly taken down a peg or two because of arrogance (and seems to be calling the marketing for this movie underwhelming). And he seems dismissive of the reported rush for tickets that appears to be underway. This guy is starting to piss me off.

Ha! TBF He didn’t liked the first movie but it was one of those bad reviews that you just can’t hate them because they are funny. He compared BC and Chiwetel Ejioford to Mario and Luigi because the color of their costumes. Having said that, he has championed a few of BC’s little movies. He isn’t a critic per se and his tastes are very conventional, tho. He is right about reports being rushed considering how obsessive are the Marvel fans and like mllemass said it’s kind of ridiculous to stay awake until midnight just to buy tickets for a show that it’s not unique and will have multiple shows the next days (although a lot of these people just want to be the first to watch it). Anyway, I think those reports are part of the publicity as it’s to see people getting angry at theatre chains for their crashing systems! Lol It still was a great first day for the film and it’s very promising but it will need to maintain the good numbers with more causal moviegoers. In other words, it needs good reviews and good word of mouth. Hopefully, it will achieve them. It’s the return of Sam Raimi as director after his failed Oz, almost 10 years ago!!! So yeah, I think he would want to return in a big way! Also, box office specialist are a little like award pundits: they have to write about their stuff even when there is still nothing! The difference is that box office is about money so the opinions are, at least, based on numbers. A much more exact matter than random trivia and subjective opinions. The thing I enjoy about this guy is that he has an encyclopedic knowledge about the numbers of old films and compares them to the new cases. I mean see what he says about Solo! But yeah, I don’t think it would happen the same with this one and he kind of says this, too. You don’t bet against Marvel!

Isn't that prediction a little optimistic?
Doctor Strange (2016) made $85,058,311 (opening weekend), $232,641,920 (Domestic) and $676,354,481 worldwide. They're expecting it to double the numbers. For comparison: Thor Ragnarok (2017) made $122,744,989 (opening weekend), $315,058,289 (Domestic) and $850,482,778 worldwide.
