It seems the first Spider-Man will celebrate its 20 anniversary in the same week of Dr. Strange release! Hopefully, a good omen!
It’s a nice article especially the quotes by Sam Raimi. He didn’t thought he would get the job and he is still very humble about the movie success. I also found interesting that the then Marvel fans on Internet wanted him to be fired because they thought he wasn’t the right person for the film (a cult filmmaker without any box office hit, according to Sam Raimi. Although he had already directed Darkman, a sick, bloody comic book character for adults) and because the organic spiderwebs (actually a James Cameron idea that Raimi thought it was good). They mention how it was the first time they confronted Internet fan fur, something normal nowadays.

I just want to comment that I just finished the You Tube interview that I posted here because I noticed that he talked also about his other movies. Anyway, there is right now an out of context bit being discussed on Twitter in which he says that he doesn’t go crazy with this film as if it were his because it’s someone else story and he is just interpreted that story. Obviously, it’s used as proof that the studio censored his vision or something. He actually talks very fondly about Feige and co. He tells how during their first meeting he demanded a number of graphic artists for the next day if he would be the director (something he says he always do and always has to fight for against studios) and that Feige surprised him saying he won’t have that number but the double. He then reminds to the journalist that Feige was an assistant in his Spider-Man movies and learned from his way of working in those films. He also use a metaphor of him doing the Evil Dead films being comparable to playing the harmonica; Spider-Man to play in a band and Doctor Strange to being an orchestra director. So yeah, Strange is much bigger but it’s incredible that some think the Spider-Man movies were some indie little movies in which he and he alone “went crazy” doing what he wanted to do when just yesterday it was published an article about how he was sure that they didn’t wanted him for the job. Even fans were against him!
But that wasn’t actually my main comment, I wanted to say that he is soooo humble! He is asked about how he feels that Quentin Tarantino loves his work and he says that he thinks on himself like a house painter and Tarantino praising him is like if Picasso told him he liked how he painted a house!

Just yesterday I saw a tweet claiming Raimi wasn't always good because Oz and this movie but this one is actually great!
The only reason I can imagine people at the time underappreciated was because the backlash against Sharon Stone! It's a brilliant movie and very comic book styled, by the way.
