Also I saw a few film critics trying to decide which is the best/less evil streaming service after the one they thought was the best (HBO Max) seems to be imploding and being disappointed that there’s nothing. They probably were thinking or only care about big studios but I immediately thought on MUBI! I love MUBI! But also, they are Americans, they have access to The Criterion Channel! I couldn’t avoid thinking about what kind of film critics they are!

Yes to all you said, but the studios can’t (in this day and age), be blind to the optics of canceling what looked to be a major picture starring people of color. They had to have known how that would read out there in the outrageverse.
Personally I could care less. I’m sick to death of comic book movies and the other ones they cancelled weren’t on my radar anyway, but I’m not sure there isn’t something to the racism accusations. I don’t know for sure, of course, if the reason is any deeper than financial, but they had to know how it would play!

Who knows what really happened. Logic would tell it’s suicidal because it’s an almost finished work and they spend a lot on it. I am not very sure about the racism accusations, tho. The guy seems indeed very ignorant and nasty according to reports but the only anecdote I have read was about him belittling Clint Eastwood, the white old Conservative man per excellence, and he was nasty against him only because financial stuff: he supposedly was unhappy with the studio executives because they made a movie (Cry Macho) they knew wouldn’t make any money just because their fidelity to the old star and their long history of hits with him.
We will see what happens. Anyway, the guy is from Discovery and both studios will blend and apparently he is taking some financial based decisions. He seems indeed not very knowledgeable on artistic stuff (a lot of accusations of him being a “reality TV” guy) but at the end it seems everything is about the money.
The sad part of the Batgirl thing (and remember: they cancelled other films and just erased some original stuff!) is that WB has the rights of the characters. They are the owners so the filmmakers can’t just take it to other place like it happened with other productions in other places (and mainly bought by Netflix!). I am not a fan of comic book movies and I wasn’t interested on the project but I indeed feel bad for them. The worst part is that we don’t know what really happened and it’s easy to conclude it was very bad instead of that, for whatever reason, someone thought it a wasn’t commercially viable. It could be quality but we don’t know and they can’t prove that’s not the case! I mean, it wasn’t completely finished!

Some explanation that kinda sound logic (although ridiculous at the same time!),
They also supposedly will fire 70% of their workers. That’s much worse than what Netflix did. There are rumors that they will announce its elimination soon. HBO Max, of course. Not WB!
EDITED BC had the Litvinenko project with HBO. I think there’s a difference between both. I mean HBO is just the good old cable service and there are productions that are exclusively HBO Max productions so hopefully the project is not affected.

WB/HBOMax is the same entity that has the Ezra Miller Flash movie, right? It will be interesting to see how that movie, with its extremely problematic star, ends up being handled. The absolute rage if The Flash ends up going forward and this movie didn't will be understandable.
You know what this stunt did do, though? Bring a lot of attention to HBOMax. Maybe negative attention is good attention? Who knows.

I read an article saying that sources claimed Batgirl was good but not so good like The Flash which was great. True or not, it sounds like they won’t cancel it and see potential on it (also it’s a movie theater release. Maybe I’m wrong but I understand Batgirl was only made for HBO Max. It’s the revenge of the big screen!). They also announced the date for The Joker sequel.

Well, if nothing else, the twitter wars and utter meltdowns over all of this will be interesting to watch. I predict that 95% of the people reading along will misread something and get all pissed about it at some point!
As a comic book reader, here is where I admit that I don't like DC much, though I did read Hellblazer and similar Vertigo comics. Never wanted them on the big screen, though.

I am looking forward to 'Glass Onion,' the 'Knives Out' sequel on Netflix in December. Apparently it did well at TIFF.

The rumor was that it was the best Netflix film this award season and the one they planned to push for awards which some considered worrying because it’s a comedy and not your typical “serious” Netflix film by an important auteur. Well, it seems it was true! It’s having a better general reception than their Venice titles.
Another rumor is that Noah Baumbach‘s film was incredibly expensive even when he normally do humble looking films. So that would be another “vanity” project by an auteur that like The Irishman, Netflix supposedly will stop to do.
