SmilingBenedict cut him from a picture! James Friend, on the right, is the cinematographer.

I‘m just generally interested: Did you English speakers watch the movie dubbed? I‘m German and I had to read the book as a requirement for doing my A-levels („Abitur“ as it‘s called here) and it‘s just too violent for me. That‘s why I won‘t watch this.

I'm from Mexico and here most foreign movies, especially movies for adult audiences, are shown in their original language with subtitles. I prefer watching movies like that. I hate when they are dubbed.
I understand that in other countries like Spain, they dubbed most films. And the cliche in the USA is that people doesn't like to read subtitles!

Here in Canada, I watched it dubbed. It was a very good dubbing effort - very seamless. Usually I'm bothered by dubbing and the hubby and I don't mind having subtitles in a movie at all, but I didn't even notice it was dubbed for All Quiet.
I'm quiet a fan of the book (I read it when I was much, much younger - early 20s I think) and have seen every film/TV version and liked them all. This one was superb! Yes, it was violent but that's the point I think - war is violent and nasty and something to be avoided. But it is a part of the human experience and legitimate material for the arts to explore.

Wow! A German movie dubbed into English! I didn‘t even know it existed this way around. Glad you enjoyed it! Daniel Brühl is a great actor. Have you seen him in Rush ? Btw he‘s also fluent in Spanish.

Daniel Brüh is a favourite of mine. He was the best thing about Rush IMO.
Actually he was the reason I went to see The Fifth Estate (and then discovered BC).
I also loved him in The Alienist. I wish that series was still continuing.

I think he is half Spaniard and yes, he talks perfect Spanish! It’s very weird because I know him since his first international hit, Goodbye, Lenin and even when I have watched him in other films (including alongside BC in TFE), I still identify him like the very young man from Goodbye, Lenin so when I saw this movie trailer I was shocked that he wasn’t playing a young soldier! He was the old politician guy! Lol
EDITED If you wait for the whole credits in Netflix productions, you can see the name of the different actors dubbing everything in a good number of languages (Yes, I read the credits! 😏)
