You know, I have to say that I really miss the friendliness, professionalism and intelligence of TPOTD cast from last year now that I am watching (with popcorn) the trainwreck that is the Don't Worry Darling press and red carpet at Venice. OMG. Twitter is losing its mind* (spitgate? etc etc).
Anyway, I am glad for all the good updates from this group, because I do like seeing what is coming out and reading the reviews, even if they lack BC.
* I mean, it is always losing its mind, but the wild speculation is just so, well, I would say over the top, but it is kind of typical for Twitter, I guess.

I’m glad the Don’t Worry Darling is doing so badly in the reviews. It sounds awful! I have no plans to see it, but I really would like to know what the “surprise twist” is that the movie reviews won’t spoil.

From what I have read, it is basically (big plot spoiler) The Stepford Wives set in the 50s but a computer simulated 50s - all the women are in tanks or some such nonsense.

I have no idea what’s going on with the cast and opening of DWD, but snark/joke Twitter is in fine form today. Lots of great memes rolling around.
Does anyone have the scoop on the gossip?

I have no idea what’s going on with the cast and opening of DWD, but snark/joke Twitter is in fine form today. Lots of great memes rolling around. Does anyone have the scoop on the gossip? OK, so.... 1. Shia was originally cast in Harry Styles' place. 2. Olivia Wilde claimed she fired him to keep Florence Pugh safe or make her feel safe 3. Shia released a video where this was patently not true and Olivia tried to beg him back/make nice and called FP "Miss Flo." 4. Harry Styles was hired. 5.Olivia and Harry started banging, violated covid protocols, Olivia was served with papers from her ex (ted Lasso guy) for custody of the children, Harry neither confirms nor denies that they are banging. 6. O&H sneak off a lot and bang in a trailer and Miss Flo is pissed. 7. Movie is finally finished. 8. It goes to venice where harry avoids olivia and Miss Flo refuses to do the press (she is also friends with Olivia's ex, I guess?) 9. Harry says some incredibly stupid things and Chris Pine managed to not have a brain hemorrhage but swallows really hard. Like, Harry likes movies because they feel like movies? And, doesn't know how to act? Like, floor is floor, you know? 10. The red carpet is super awkward. 11. Harry maybe spits on Chris Pine by accident. 12. Harry and Chris say no spitting happened. But, then again Harry still hasn't admitted to being with Olivia, despite numerous papped photos. 13. Harry is accused frequently of queerbaiting (or something), since he said things like (paraphrased): sex in My Policeman isn't just like two guys banging - there is tenderness. Internet goes wild because, like, there is tenderness in many queer relationships, so what does he even mean. Then he kissed Nick Kroll instead of his girlfriend Olivia. (like, I don't know or care what HS's orientation is, but he sure does like to play into the slash culture of his fans - they are called Larries and are very toxic - like, put the septics to shame toxic - and keep everyone guessing - whatever). 14. Miss Flo arrives at the last minute to the red carpet and won't even speak to Olivia. Tension is reported by many people in attendance. I think I got it all . Forgive the misspellings. ETA: Harry Styles has TWO movies coming out. My Policeman has gay themes and will premier at TIFF, so Harry Styles is the internet drama gift that keeps on giving, as far as I am concerned. THIS is why I so appreciate TPOTD press. So much.

The crazy thing is that TPOTD set was “extreme” by design. Everyone was in character and the director created tense situations even during social occasions outside the set but everything was about the job not about personal stuff! And they ended loving each other with their kids having play dates and Campion casually kissing her actors on the mouths! Lol
I won’t defend Shia LaBeouf but his letter was very polite (probably written by his lawyer), he almost apologized for having to expose her: he said he understood why she did it: because he was already “cancelled” and was good easy publicity for her film but he needed to do it because he is in legal troubles and needs to fight for his reputation. And apart of the obvious allegations against him, the part about defending her leading lady sounded has a response to the crazy Method actor cliches that Twitter and press love to denounce too much, especially with her mentioning her “no assholes on set policy”. The irony was that the crazy Campion’ method (which it’s not The Method) of taking her actors to extremes ended in better relationships and more respectful environment than whatever this director tried to do!

Also the polemic is a lot about good old gossip but there is indeed some elements of social media garbage. I mean film critic Mark Harris criticized, for example, the accusations of “queerbaiting” by “young people” against Style saying that it’s contradictory to want people to be more “fluid” about their sexuality and at the same time demanding celebrities to clearly define themselves just to be attacked by a young woman telling him to shut up and listen to actual queer people. Of course, the guy is gay and married to Angels in America author!
And the thing about LaBeuf is fascinating because as he said he already was “cancelled” so press and other people attacking him was considered morally acceptable even if it wasn’t true. Wilde was originally celebrated for “fired him”. But then everything complicated for her when he presented the receipts (and it probably didn’t helped her neither that she was also kinda hated because both Sudeikis and Pugh have a lot of very passionated fans on social media!) I mean, I’m not defending him but how many accusations are like that? Someone accuses someone of something and then other people easily could use him or her as scapegoats to make themselves look good just because! That’s very creepy and we all know very common on social media where mob mentality reign supreme.

I moved the conversation.
I think this review by the brilliant Stephanie Zacharek surely is more objective than others.

Lol what a sh*tshow! I don’t follow any of those people and I have no idea who Flo is, but yikes! All I saw were these incredibly stoic/suffering looks Chris Pine was giving at the premiere.
Olivia Wilde has taken to pushing (ala influencer style), some face serum (“I’m obsessed!”). It’s vomitous, imo.
Thanks, llminnowpea, for the great summary. That’s wild. 😂
oh, and I meant to say this must be agony for CP. He’s a proper actor and seems to be stuck in the middle of a lot of nonsense.

Did Olivia Wilde used to have a show with a male co-host, and guests on it? Or was that a different Olivia? Anyway, she made fun of an autistic child on that show, who memorized different models of vacuum cleaners. I hate her for that. Unless it was someone else. LOL.
