As Harris points out (and Dreyfuss mentioned it, too) - if the academy enforces stricter rules on the campaigning, the new rules will apply to everyone, including black actors. And no one wants that.

And as he says, we have to wait to see those rules but if they are against a campaign as the one about AR then they will affect humble productions much more than big Hollywood movies and at least in theory, oppressed filmmakers and/or actors who doesn’t have access to Hollywood budgets but to admit that we have to admit first than it was AR, a white British woman, the one in a much vulnerable position than VD and the Universal pictures movie Till and Twitter would never admit that! Things are, literally, Black and White and grey doesn’t exist!
EDITED
Also they see the Oscar as the big goal but the Oscar is just a tool. The goal is people watching your film. The Oscar is a foot note that could help you to sell your movie but it’s not a warranty of longevity (at this moment, being added to physical media collections especially art house oriented as Criterion or Kino are more promising for the long future of your film than winning an Oscar!) or stardom. That’s why Marvel doesn’t need the Oscars but the Oscars need Marvel even when Marvel people somehow feel discriminated for not being included. Also that’s why it’s ridiculous when people say things like her film wasn’t watched by no one so she didn’t deserved it but this huge movie star with a big hit on the box office was robbed and that’s racism! Of course, diversity and representation are important but the one winning the box office already won and doesn’t really need nominations nor awards. The little film that no one watched does!

From Janet Maslin's Twitter account,
It's a shame that it's mostly "polemic" people who doesn't fear to say what they really think who are defending her but I imagine that most people or at least most informed people, think the same.
It would be cool if she wins but I imagine that would put her in a very uncomfortable position.

I will post this here even when I'm continuing the chat on another thread,
This is a good explanation of what happened last year and this year with Farrell. It does not explain the supporting categories, tho. but we will see!
Of course, Will Smith was always the strongest candidate for the Oscar but I think BC is enough big name in his own country to had made the case for a BAFTA win, especially because he won all those critics awards!
I remember that Feinberg indeed claimed he was a BAFTAs voter, which it's bonkers! Why are award pundits voting industrial awards?

While obviously I’m still pleased when BC gets a nomination or a win as it means we get to see more of him. But otherwise I’ve no interest in award shows anymore. They’ve lost all credibility in recent years.

He probably will be attacked for this but it made laugh!
I haven’t watched the films. I read that Kerry Condon was great but she isn’t a big name yet but in general it seemed a weak category. I would say that of the two big stars in the two commercial movies, I prefer Angela Basset by a lot because she is sublime but, again, I haven’t watched the performances!

This site is strongly championing this movie even when it had a very mediocre reception by critics!
Who knows? It doesn’t need to be a masterpiece to win the Oscar but the obsession with awards and the need to talk about them is so ridiculous! Then, they frequently would accuse actors or directors, rivals of their faves, of being obsessed with winning the award!

After the slap and Will Smith winning I'm not interested with the oscars except that it is, like the festivals, a way of knowing about what movies to watch. I prefer the festivals. CODA winning best picture was the worst. Also it's entertaining when you're not too muxh invested.
I had to search which movie won this year because I had completely forgotten (EEAO). Makes sense. There are some movies from last year I still didn't see.
I watched the first season of The Wheel of Time and Rosamund Pike is very good in it but the series isn't, I stopped watching the second season. Sophie Okonedo was in the first season.
