Jeymes Samuel has added a novel’s worth of actors to The Book of Clarence, his follow-up to his smash feature debut, the 2021 Western, The Harder They Fall.
RJ Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Titans TV star Anna Diop, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard and Marianne Jean-Baptiste have joined LaKeith Stanfield and Omar Sy in the production, which hails from Legendary Pictures and that began production Monday in Italy.
Here was how Samuel’s described what he was hoping for in the interview:
“You remember those biblical epics, whether they were about the Bible or just taking place around it, from The Ten Commandments to The Greatest Story Ever Told, Samson and Delilah and Ben-Hur, which runs alongside all that stuff in the Bible? As will be The Book of Clarence, a full fun-filled extravaganza. It’s written and ready to go, and set in 29 AD.”
I haven’t watched The Hardest They Fall. I guess I have to fix that! I saw the cast of that and, apart of a Mexican actor, everyone else in the main characters are black so yep, this new project is slightly surprising but fascinating!
Also how cool that the movie is produced by Jay Z!
EDITED I know it’s an ensamble with at least a clear lead so maybe not everyone will share screen with the others but how nice that BC is working with his friend David Oyelowo again!
