Today Criterion announced their April titles and they include a 4K version of their already title The Fisher King and that’s another production I thought about when this series was announced! Not on Pinocchio! Lol Someone remember it? It is one of the best Terry Guilliam films and surely his more mature and controlled. It’s extremely sordid but also magical and beautiful. Robin Williams played a respected Medieval academic who after witnessing the senseless murder of his wife just loses his mind and ends living on the street, homeless and deluded he goes to a quest for the Holy Grail in the 1990s New York. It’s a beautiful film and I’m thinking on buying the new 4K version!

I saw that, too. I watched TFK many years ago. With Jeff Bridges, right? A truly mad and brilliant film, if a difficult watch. Robin Williams was so talented. I was very sorry to lose him. He always comes up frequently on those “which celebrity death hit you the hardest” tweets. Along with John Lennon and Anthony Bourdain. Very beloved people. I hope they knew that when they were alive.

The HBO documentary about him is so fascinating. I actually bought his biography written by Dave Itzkoff but TBH I never finished it! But in the documentary they said he had this awful illness that is similar to Parkinson but it isn’t. He was wrongly diagnosed with Parkinson in part because the thing he actually had it is impossible to diagnose without looking to the physical condition of the brain so it’s only detected after the person dies. That thing slowly destroys the brain and the people who suffer it becomes sometimes violent but other times, yes, suicidal. It’s very tragic and shows how complicated it’s suicide! In his case it was a mental illness but it was also a very physical one.
Here is the trailer but it doesn’t reflect the sordid side of the film,
Jeff Bridges is actually the lead of the film, doesn’t?
But it reminds me to the plot of Eric because both are about successful men who suffer from a mental breakdown after experiencing a huge personal tragedy and end homeless. The Fisher King wasn’t about drug addiction, tho. And I don’t think AIDS is mentioned, I’m not sure, it was shoot in the middle of the real life crisis and there is this great homeless transvestite played by Michael Jeter, who was HIV positive in real life, and who is just like the movie: over the top, slightly grotesque, very sordid and extremely beautiful all at the same time!
But again, Eric is a thriller not a dramedy.

00:33:55, she talks about the series and it sounds great!
This video was uploaded two months ago and she says they will start shooting in January and probably it will be streamed “at the end of next year (2023)”
Also this is a chat between Morgan and David Nicholls, Eric isn’t mentioned at all but at the beginning the moderator says Patrick Melrose is the best adaptation she has seen in her whole life!

If he is indeed shooting this right now or about to begin I really hope Netflix post some set photo! It’s perplexing how the company some times promote something in certain way and others in a completely different way! I mean they are already promoting David Fincher next film which they scheduled for November/The Oscars race but they didn’t show anything from the new Wes Anderson film or even about TPOTD in 2021 until Venice when it was clearly their main Oscar film last year but they posted a photo from a Sandra Bullock drama film which didn’t went anywhere when she was still shooting it. I guess it’s decided by the people behind those productions.
Still, it would be nice if we could have a set photo with BC. The last one we had was when he was shooting Louis Wain! His productions have been very discreet since then!

Another new LinkedIn profile and another person confirming BC in the lead role. It also increasingly seems they are already shooting it. William Hope, actor. /details/experience/ He is a seasoned actor, by the way. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Hope_(actor)

This is from a page from Budapest, translated by Google. I don't know if they checked the information. There are some pages from Hungary and Budapest on Facebook but have nothing (and I hate FB).

An update: IMDb added the names of a few location crew members. All of them have Hungarian names.
