Benedict Cumberbatch To Lead & EP Netflix’s ‘Eric’ From Abi Morgan & Sister

Benedict Cumberbatch is to lead and EP Netflix’s Eric, playing a puppeteer whose son goes missing in 1980s Manhattan.

Netflix has set cast on the Abi Morgan-penned show from Chernobyl producer Sister and the likes of Gaby Hoffman, McKinley Belcher II, Dan Fogler and Phoebe Nicholls will star opposite Cumberbatch. Cast is rounded out by Clarke Peters, Ivan Morris Howe, David Denman, Bamar Kane, Adepero Odyue, Alexis Molnar and Roberta Colindrez.

The six-parter follows Vincent Anderson (Cumberbatch), a grief-stricken puppeteer on a leading TV show whose young boy goes missing and who finds solace through his friendship with Eric, the monster that lives under his son’s bed. The Split scribe Morgan’s Little Chick is producing with Sister and Morgan EPing alongside Cumberbatch, Jane Featherstone, Lucy Dyke and Lucy Forbes.

This is from Abi Morgan's production company. She expands a little on the plot.
The director also posted an image of the deadline article. I think they were waiting for the announcement and that's why they were hiding the name.

I thought there were 3 episodes not 6. That's why production is going to take so long.

Such a shame they didn’t released a photo, tho.!

I haven’t watched C’mon C’mon but Gaby Hoffman received extraordinary reviews for that. Very interesting and exciting cast in general.

Also I rewatched the first part of the Tsunami miniseries by Morgan and the production values aren’t great, especially compared to the much more expensive The Impossible or Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter, but the script is wonderful. The relationship between Chiwetel Ejiofor and Sophie Okonedo characters is just so painful to watch and it probably will be similar to what we will see between BC and Hoffman considering their characters also lost a child.

I automatically hate people saying he should be doing Sherlock instead other (much more interesting) projects. Happily for us, he is interested on evolving as an actor instead of being a failure who only plays the same character for life. And he is very successful doing it! But it’s Facebook, they obviously are stuck in the past! 😉

Also a lot of people mentioning a Netflix comedy series called Happy. It indeed sounds slightly similar but I’m guessing Eric will be much more serious.
