Eric The Split’s Abi Morgan returns with the story of a missing boy in 1980s New York. His father, a puppeteer on a Children’s TV series, deals with his emotions by forming a connection with Eric, the monster who lives under his son’s bed. Where: Netflix
They don’t mention BC nor no one from the cast when they did it with other series so I’m guessing this was written before the official announcement. Maybe it’s from the magazine. If that’s the case, it’s great that it was already generating hype even without a star.
In the UK, for example, Mensah’s team is focused on offering a broad slate. She cites upcoming shows like reality series At Home With The Furys, which follows boxing champion Tyson Fury and his family; a doc series on singer Robbie Williams; and six-part thriller Eric from writer Abi Morgan starring Benedict Cumberbatch. “I want UK audiences to feel that anything they want, they can get on Netflix — from the highest end like Eric to something like the quiz show Cheat,” she says. “You should feel that Netflix is your home for everything you love.”
More random. They don't called it "high end" here. .. yet 😉 but they mentioned it as part of Sister's lineup,
Sister, the company run by Liz Murdoch, Stacey Snider and Jane Featherstone, which was behind hit HBO series Chernobyl, is producing in association with Oil & Cattle. Sister is also behind Netflix’s upcoming six-parter Eric, starring Benedict Cumberbatch playing a puppeteer whose son goes missing in 1980s Manhattan from Abi Morgan, and Amazon’s forthcoming series The Power from Naomi Alderman.
New Abi Morgan interview. She will be doing press to promote the paperback version of her book. She briefly mentions that she just visited the set and how BC’s character is kinda inspired by her own experiences,
Eric From the pen of Abi Morgan (The Split) and starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Eric is set in 1980s New York. When the puppeteer Vincent’s nine-year-old son, Edgar, goes missing on his way to school, Vincent becomes convinced that if he can get Edgar’s cartoon character Eric on screen, he will be able to bring him home. Vincent’s increasingly volatile behaviour alienates him from his family and friends as this dark psychological drama plays out. Eric is expected to be released in 2023 on Netflix
BUDAPEST: Benedict Cumberbatch is starring in a six-part limited series called Eric, created by Abi Morgan. The Netflix production is currently shooting in Hungary with local company Mid Atlantic Films servicing, and it is benefiting from the Hungarian tax incentives scheme. Recently, Benedict Cumberbatch made the local headlines when he visited the Hungarian State Opera and watched Don Quijote performed by the Hungarian National Ballet. He stood up to applaud the artists, and personally congratulated the company after the performance, as the State Opera wrote in a Facebook post. Filming for the series is now underway in Hungary and in New York, and several locations in Budapest are used as a double for New York.
