They don't even have the excuse of there being a different language involved re British shows, they seem to just think they have to Americanise everything, to effect. It's unhealthy, in my opinion, too, because it fosters the peculiar isolationist thinking that is so prevalent in America.
Totally agree with this sentiment, but disagree with the different language being an "excuse". According to an Eurobarometer the Brits have one of the worst language skills in Europe so maybe listening attentively to any foreign language wouldn't be a bad thing. It's not a British thing, it's an anglophone thing, but still. When I was in South America I met Brits and Aussies who had been traveling the continent for months but somehow hadn't picked any of the language up (the US crowd generally seemed to be those who had already studied Spanish at home, with the exception of the retired folk at Machu Picchu.) This just couldn't happen to a person who has any experience in learning languages. So everyone should at least know one extra language to make it easier to quickly get a grip on others when the need arises - cause yes traveling in some places in S America it definitely is a need not a convenience, you get charged twice as much in some restaurants for example just for using the English language menu.
For some reason I thought there was tons of UK remakes of Scandi shows but you're right, there really aren't that many. It just seems like the ones there are have done so well (whereas US remakes of UK shows tend to fail with a few exceptions) that I somehow magnified their importance in my mind. I also have not seen either version of The Killing and was under the impression the remake was British but actually it's American lol. There's also The Tunnel and The Bridge, which are UK and US remakes respectively of the original The Bridge (and this is the only show in the history of ever that I need a Finnish remake of, it should be Finnish/Estonian and called The Ferry and be a dark comedy set on one of the ferries between Helsinki and Tallinn. C'mon everyone is doing it, we can too.)
Oh and as to rewatch value, definitely Friends, Sherlock and Breaking Bad for me. I haven't really watched Sherlock all that much since series 3 - I've only seen S3 twice, but S4 already 3 times with the exception of T6T which I only watched the once - but I think I saw S1-2 like twenty times in 2012. I've seen BrBa in its entirety maybe 5-6 times, but it's 62 episodes so it's a bit more time-consuming. Friends...I honestly can't give even an estimate but so so so so so many times. It's good cause you can just randomly choose one episode and watch it without having to go through all 10 seasons.
