I never understood American footbal or its appeal. It is like a strange battle between strong men. Football in comparison is like ballet.

Ya, Magda, it's super aggressive. But the game is very interesting. It's complex and the rules now mean gaining ground is a lot more difficult. Plus, those guys are so fast (even with all that padding in) that makes it difficult, too. There's a lot of skill involved. As well as cheating, lol. But nothing quite as blatant as soccer players who go into convulsions and fall over if you graze them with your shoelace.

The game is like a very physical form of chess to me.
And this morning I am grinning even more because my beloved Leafs have now gone ahead of those highly touted Washington Capitals and they did it in a convincing manner.

Congrats Roverpup! As I said I'm rooting for the Leafs in these play-offs. Although I would love to see Ovi finally win the Stanley Cup, I've a feeling he'll jump ship to KHL thanks to the greedy, selfish and idiotic "let's not let our players go to the Olympics" crap the NHL have decided to pull (I'm still pissed off about that) so it's not like he'll have many chances remaining... But eh, it's just one guy, the Maple Leafs have like 10 guys 20 or under in their team so it's very cool they've made it this far!

Thanks for the good feelings towards T.O.
As far as Ovechkin is concerned I really don't care if he ever sees a Stanley Cup. He isn't a hockey player I like in any way. In fact I would have to say he is the antithesis of what a hockey player should be in my book. Even before Toronto was pitted against the Caps in this playoff series I was never a fan of Ovi as a person or player. He is a one way player - a floater who never backchecks and most hockey players hate that kind of selfish player on their team. He also has purposely hurt players and expected everyone to just treat him "special" and escape punishment (and whined about it if he didn't get off "scot-free") so in my books he is a jerk of a person. Plus that he has said very ungracious things about other players (some of whom are even on his own team and I have seen with my own eyes that he mistreats his own team's rookie players during the game... absolutely shameful behaviour!) and people in public and refused to apologise - again, not something I admire. And as a final point against him he is a egotistical "hotdog" - tries to rub his scoring prowess in the face of opposing players during the game - and only ends up acting very childish and crass. He has been like this all his career - the complete opposite of a good sportsman.
He has scoring skill for sure - but he is a total detriment to his team if he hasn't got the puck as far as I am concerned and a man who seems to be completely lacking in good manners and graciousness. Give me someone who respects others and is humble as well as a true unselfish team player any day over someone like Ovechkin.
Sorry for the rant but this guy has irked me for years. And I think this is the first time I have ever had an opportunity to spout off about it.

I've always thought Ovi is much more passionate about Team Russia than he's ever been about the Capitals. I admit I mostly know him from International competition. I keep up with NHL cause it's the best quality hockey in the world, but I don't necessarily like the league (I generally don't like how leagues are ran in North America, too much focus on building "franchises" to make money rather than having just teams, no relegation which leads to dumb stuff like tanking to get better draft picks etc) but the Capitals have never been of any particular interest for me. I respect Ovechkin for having a personality, I find most NHL players rather dull which the league itself encourages by qualifying almost any outward expression of joy when scoring as "excessive" and "disrespectful" (like with Subban.)
But oh boy Real v Bayern today! People love to shit on CR7 but dude scored 5 goals in these two quarter-final matches. He's on fire! Though Marcelo was the MVP today. <3 And Asensio. <3 <3 A very eventful game. (Poor Sergio Ramos though with an own goal lol.) Definitely one of those games that make me go "yep, this is why I love football". I love both these teams so much.

I appreciate what you are saying but I think you can have "personality" without denigrating a younger players on the ice during a game (saw it with my own eyes), being rude to other respected and talented individuals and carrying on grudges in a public forum - that is just being an ass IMO.
I can think of plenty of spirited and joyeous players who were very passionate about their sport and proud of their accomplishments, but never behaved in a selfish, egotistical manner that has been an Ovechkin hallmark over the years. I really see nothing admirable about how he carries himself in his professional life.
One of the things I admire about Benedict is that he is both very proud and passionate about his craft and yet he is humble and always respectful and generous in his praise of others in his profession. I also admire sports personalities who follow a similar way of doing things in their chosen profession.
