That article is funny because it seems to me that whoever made that question about casting gay actors was suggesting the now typical "gay actors MUST play all gay characters" thing but he was like "Nah, I just work with people I love" Of course, probably he got away with the answer just because he is gay himself! I almost can see the Twitter storm if that wasn't the case but who knows maybe there will be something in the future during the award season!
BC apparently said I am Love was one of his favorite movies ever so the interest was there on his part. He also has the contact with STUDIOCANAL (which produced Guadagnino last movie) and who knows? Maybe Swinton was another contact between both.

I was reading Variety report about Lara Pulver doing a new Amazon series (based in something by Philip K. Dick) when I saw the news about Rio again and I noticed that one paragraph seems to have been badly edited: variety.com/2017/film/news/benedict-cumberbatch-jake-gyllenhaal-movie-rio-1202424722/It seems they delated the part that said Gyllenhaal's company and his partner were involve... although they let the "G" of Gyllenhaal! Of course I don't know if it means something or not. Surely we will have some news during Le Marche du Film which begins tomorrow. EDITED: I just remembered that I actually took an image of the article when it was originally posted because I was busy at work when I saw the news on Twitter and my reaction was to took the photo to read it later and no way it was an error! They delated Gyllenhaal's name (with the exception of the "G", of course!) and the name of his company but after Adam Ackland's name was also the name of JG's partner, Riva Marker. They delated it, too. So it seems to me that the project is more between the director, who will also produce, and Sunny March, which it's not weird considering the links between STUDIOCANAL and SunnyMarch.

Very confusing! I'm excited about this picture and hope he films it next, after Melrose.
Has any one here seen any of Guadagnino's other monies? I saw A Bigger Splash and enjoyed it, although I didn't believe Tilda Swindon as a rock star for one millisecond. She was quite believable as a very wealthy, upperclass Englishwoman on vacation though. Ralph Feinnes seemed to be having a great time. Guadagnino likes to work with some of the same actors over and over. If this works out, maybe Benedict will have a respected director to work with repeatedly.

I have watched just one, I am Love also with Tilda Swinton. It's a very beautiful movie. I think like a much more contained Pedro Almodóvar or a much more sentimental Todd Haynes. I would like to watch A Bigger Splash and Call me by your Name soon. Those two have slightly better reviews than I am Love so, in theory, they should be even more amazing!
One advantage this project has compared to others is that apparently they have an hypothetical date to shoot it ("Early 2018") so fingers crossed!

There are a few of dubious sites that were/are claiming he will play a role in that movie. Somehow they sound even less credible that the ones that claimed he would be a James Bond's baddy and Tom Hiddleston would play his brother in Sherlock.

There is a brief mention in this Jeffrey Wells blog entry. He met with Guadagnino and apparently they will shoot the movie in Sri Lanka?! www.hollywood-elsewhere.com/2017/06/in-passing-4/Sorry for not making in clickable but I'm using my phone... at work so bye!

It is clickable, sgev.
Strange he didn't mention Suspiria.
Perhaps they decided to change Rio for Sri Lanka. Rio has some points very identifiable. Also, what about the Portuguese?

I just checked the entry and he actually talks about Suspiria in the comments.
It would be interesting to know if they changed the set of the story (in that case they also have to change the title but it could explain why Deadline said just that it will be set in an exotic place and was untitled. Anyway Variety seemed more informed but who knows?) or if Sri Lanka would double for Brazil. Rio is a big city near the sea and there are a few of them in Sri Lanka but apart of that they seem very different places! At least culturally speaking! Imagine changing a script about a city like Rio for one in which most people are Buddhist!
It's very exciting that they have a location, tho. It seems it's indeed a go! I just hope they don't change the cast at last minute! BC is producing so I really hope he do it!
(Wells calls the project "Rio" so I am guessing the story is still located in Rio)

Shooting a movie set in Rio in Sri Lanka sounds weird. Maybe they changed the setting entirely? In which case, since Rio is my favorite city on the planet, my excitement levels just went from 11 to about 3. If it's still set in Rio they'd have to anyways shoot outside scenes there, the city has a very particular look. Also finding extras would be a chore, Rio is one of the most ethnically diverse cities I've ever been to, I don't know about Sri Lanka (to be quite honest my knowledge of that whole country is rather limited) or at least if they're matching in any way. This is giving me mild 'Marshall of Finland' vibes (not as bad by any means, but still) which is a film on the Finland-Soviet Winter War that the producers to spare costs decided to shoot in Kenya of all places. The end-product didn't exactly feel...authentic lol.
