I have been reading/listening a few interviews he did at Melbourne Film Festival. He said he indeed is working in Suspira right now but that they finished the cut. They are working in the music and audio right now so I'm guessing they are in the last details. The 2018 release was rumored months ago so I doubt it can affect Rio. It doesn't mean other factors do but it seems to me that he has enough time to finished Suspira and begin with another movie's pre-production (it's not a blockbuster so he doesn't need half a year for it).
In one interview he said he always have admired directors who do 2 movie in a year, by the way!

I've just learned about the MFF reading the article I posted(which ended on the past weekend). The 2018 release was rumored months ago so I doubt it can affect Rio. Good to know. I really want BC doing this movie. In one interview he said he always have admired directors who do 2 movie in a year, by the way! But he critized Dolan because he makes too many films?

Glad to hear this movie is going somewhere, although I'm not really that excited. I mean it teased me with the Rio thing (being my very favorite place on Earth) and then just moved it somewhere else. I'm still disappointed. They should also change the name soon, why keep using a city name that has nothing to do with the movie? Based on an article or not, but very very rarely is a movie with an "vs" in it anything but trash. Everyone knows this! Bad move! But yey new Villeneuve film!

I do hope this goes ahead too! It sounds like a great opportunity for BC to work with a wonderfully creative director and some great talent. I really don't care about which location they use to present the story just as long as the writing and directing is strong (we already know the acting talent is there!!).
I am looking forward to seeing the other movies by Luca G. Especially Suspria when it comes out finally, which sounds absolutely chilling. But all of his films seem tailored made for visceral experience as well as exploring the psychological aspects as well.

Agreed. This is the project I'm more excited for. I want to see him work for interesting directors as Guadagnino.

Call Me By Your Name is opening Helsinki film festival this year. Too bad I don't live in Helsinki anymore and the opening is in the middle of the week so it's not like I can just pop by. 😟
