Benedict’s “pengwings/penglings” has been included at the end of this funny video of people mispronouncing words.

Article. Actors who never made a bad movie. I might suggest The Fifth Estate as the exception to this rule, but thoughts?

I would say The Other Boleyn Girl was pretty awful. But we can’t blame him for that because he was barely in it. Also, I thought August Osage County was terrible. It was saved by him singing a love song to his girlfriend/cousin/sister, but the movie itself . . .

Those are both good examples, but I liked Osage. It was horrible to watch with all that bile and venom being flung around, but BC was funny and sweet, a counterpoint to the dark comedy. I’m not sure it was a *bad* movie like The Other Boleyn Girl was. It had some redeemable ideas and qualities. Not many, lol, but some. Of course, I could be completely wrong, too. 😜

I always use certain criteria for a "bad" movie.
1) I can't follow the plot - The Other Boleyn Girl... I could follow the plot. Same for August: Osage County.
2) The characters say, or do, REALLY stupid things that seem "out of character" for who they are supposed to be... TOBG - everyone pretty much acted in character to me. Same for A:OC.
3) Poor production values (bad lighting/garbled sound/lack of continuity/ poor editing)... I don't remember any such "sins" in either TOBG or A:OC.
To me Zoolander was impossible to follow. Nothing made sense (within the "sense" that the movie was supposed to be).
But even that movie wasn't even in the same wheelhouse of what I would consider a truly BAD movie (like De Niro's The Family or 2003's Gigli) .

Great criteria, RP! I may steal that from you. Helps to focus the mind. 😃👍🏼

O god, I completely forgot about Zoolander! That was a Bad Movie (tm). I think even Ben said he regretted that choice. I think that was one of the only times I didn’t think he could act his way out of how bad it was. Usually even if the movie isn’t stellar he does an excellent job with his role so you can’t fault him for that but wow Zoolander was an exception, lol.
Do I get kicked out of the fan club now, for slagging off on his acting? Please let me stay, lol. 🙏🏻

I'll fight anyone who tries to kick you out over Zoolander!
I will say in his defense he wasn't given much to act with.
The whole concept of the movie was a mistake. A hot mess.
Even the best actor needs some type of "writing" to base their performance on. A wonderful actor like BC can take mediocre writing and push it into a decent level. But when you are handed a pile of vanity driven shit, it isn't likely your performance is going to turn into a bouquet of roses.

Well said, RP! I only watched it once and what I mainly remember is All had few lines and just stared/looked a lot at Ben Stiller in a weird way. I didn’t understand the point. I was cringing so hard through the whole thing I couldn’t watch it again, lol. Once was more than ample.

I’ll take Zoolander over August Osage County any day! Ben Stiller has a bunch of those silly comedies, and lots of celebrities were more than happy to appear in them - as Benedict was. Sure, he regretted it later, but it was nice to see him taking a few risks.
I think I’m much more petty about what I consider to be a bad movie. Both The Other Boleyn Girl and AOC had me yelling (in my head, if I was in a movie theatre) “WHAT??”.- and not in a good way.
