I am very excited about this project and hope it will begin in the near future. Just a few hours ago there was a tweet that mentioned it. mobile.twitter.com/SymManor(You have to scroll down to see it) So it appears like scouting locations are still on going for this. I believe there have been other tweets by folks who have indicated that locations (in the same area) were being sussed out for Rogue Male. Lovely area to film in - Broadchurch was also filmed in the same locale. I just can't wait to see BC in PO'T role and see how he makes it his own! :-))

I saw people on Twitter claiming it will be shoot at the end of this year based in one tweet by that account. I didn't see that particular tweet, tho.

I seem to recall that a while ago I read one or two tweets that indicated that a company associated with this project was in that area looking at film locations. It wasn't from this Manor place though - it might have been just an individual's account. It was something like the tweeter's dad was involved somehow - you know, like "My dad told me that yesterday he was taking "so and so" around to look for locations for a film that Benedict Cumberbatch is doing!" - that sort of thing.
I do remember looking up on Google maps to see where the location was and noting that it was the same area that Broadchurch was filmed in.
This was at least 3-4 months ago.
This tweet from the Manor place is brand new.

I remember that the original news suggested that the script wasn't yet written. Then some local newspaper posted that probably it would be shoot in its territory just because the novel was located there. They even asked his publicist and she said something about a probable shooting the next year.I don't remember the tweets.
It's interesting if they are actually scouting for locations. It indeed suggests they will begin with the production soon but I still haven't seen anything saying it will be at the end of the year as someone said on Twitter.

I wish I had saved those tweets from a couple of months ago! I'll look for them but the chance of me finding them is nil because I just don't know where to begin.
I do distinctly remember looking up the village and connecting it to Broadchurch because we were watching that series on Netflix at the time and I was really loving the location.
Anyway, I really do hope this gets made because I just would love for BC to do a role that was originally done by Peter O'T. The only wish list thing I have ever hoped for for BC is that he would be able to remake Lawrence of Arabia someday (probably my most favourite film of all time and I LOVED PO'T in the lead role!). It won't be done of course (just my personal fantasy) but to see him in any Peter O'T role would be sublime for me!

I just had a look at that Symondsbury Manor twitter site and some of that is certainly relating to old news, in that they've included a link to a Telegraph article from last year (2nd August). I think that's what you're remembering, Sgev, and that's where the reference to the late 2017 production comes from. This was what was said then:
I vaguely remember something about the area being associated with where they filmed Broadchurch too, but that's very very vague indeed, and more that they were apparently intending to film somewhere near where the actual book is set. That was a long time ago though, I think.
What looks much more potentially significant is that the Symondsbury tweets are so specific that filming is to take place "in the lanes next to Symondsbury". That's nothing to do with the earlier article and would seem to have more likely come from insider knowledge through having been advised of possible disturbance etc. And since they're tweeting about it now, one presumes that they've only now found out about it. That certainly hints at something actively happening, and if indeed in pre-production, that late 2017 estimate from the earlier article might not be too far off.
This was quoted as a "film". Do we think it's definitely a cinema film rather than a television film?

Yes, I understand it's a film. The scriptwriter is a playwright who wrote the last Macbeth adaptation and the not the very successful Assasin's Creed, also with Fassbender. I really like how this project sounds. The book is entertaining and very cinematic but my favorite announced project is, apart of the imminent Melrose, Rio. I just want to see him working with interesting directors! I hope both projects happen. But his schedule seems to be very tight again.
I was going to write that both were StudioCanal projects but I just checked and Rogue Male was announced as a Fox Searchlight movie!

I found the reference to "later this year". It is on their Facebook page! m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1387985687952474&id=134447699972952I don't know where they got the info, tho. Are they renting the place for the production or they just heard a rumor about the shooting near their place? Also again this is a Fox Searchlight project, the same with The Rockefeller film. It seems BC/SunnyMarch are doing business with them, too.

More info: According to Michael Lesslie's agency, the film is not just an adaptation of the book but a remake of Fritz Lang's version Man Hunt which was a 20th Century Fox production, by the way and Fox Searchlight is the indie arm of the company so they should have the rights of both, movie and book. www.casarotto.co.uk/assets/x/52869.pdfI haven't watched the movie but like anyone who love movies, I love Lang. I recently watched one of his late Hollywood movies, Hangmen also Die! which has a very similar plot. Also glad it's one of his minor movies! It's much more difficult to adapt classics!

I hadn't realised the "Man Hunt" film of the book was Fritz Lang. And I don't recall ever seeing it either, but there is one significant difference in the film that they would obviously want to keep and that's the identification of Hitler as the original target. At the time the book was written, of course, it was still before the war and before it was fully widely realised quite how evil that regime was.
But if they really are doing a remake of the film rather than the book, I'm a little surprised that they're not calling it "Man Hunt" again. Or could it be that there's potential significance to Geoffrey Household later writing the "Rogue Justice" sequel to "Rogue Male"?
I'm still not sure how big a film this is going to be, but it's certainly one I'll want to see!
