I was checking Eddie Redmayne's page on Imdb and The Last Days of Night is neither there nor on Tyldum´s page.
The movie has his page only but you can't see anything but it still has the release date for 2018.

Anyway they clearly didn't shoot it at the beginning of the year as it was announced and now ER is filming the Fantastic Beasts sequel so they obviously abandoned it for now.

I rather suspect that there was a bit of a race between the two films to get into production, to effectively get the jump on the other. And the BC/Weinstein one obviously won. And having therefore lost the advantage, whether TCW cuts muster eventually or not, I'm not entirely surprised that the imperative to get the other into production so quickly passed. If it still gets made, which I'm assuming it will, it's not now going to be released in the same year as TCW regardless. So the sensible thing to do now would be to see where TCW has gone wrong (from TIFF or wherever) and to learn whatever lessons they can from that, before they start themselves. And if it does go into production after Fantastic Beasts (November, say), it'll be following a similar schedule to TIG for a likely Oscar run late 2018 instead.

Sorry I don't really follow pre release feedback but am I to understand from your post Dreamsincolour that the word on TCW is not good?

Sorry I don't really follow pre release feedback but am I to understand from your post Dreamsincolour that the word on TCW is not good? There are not official reviews yet. Just informal feedback by I think 3 random guys that went to a test screening. Two liked it and one hated it. Two of them, including the one who hated it, are from a forum that predict awards so they are in competing mode. They hate Weinstein, bios and BC (because he was the star of TIG, a bio film produced by Weinstein that they hated so much at its time). We should wait for more formal feedback to actually know how it will be received. Also I don't think the other project can benefit if this movie is not well-recived (or if it's well-recived neither). The impression would be that people aren't interested in the theme.

Thanks for the info Sgev. Seems like we need more feedback than that to get a real idea of the overall opinion.
I'm not sure I will go to see TCW as I don't really want to watch the scenes where they experiment on animals. I think it's important to show that as the dark side, if you'll excuse the pun, of the invention of electricity. I just don't think I want to see it!
I really hope the movie is a success but I guess somewhere along the line BC is going to have some "duds.". Every actor does and BC has been on an incredible roll of success these past few years.

Speaking of duds, I tried watching The Fifth Estate last night again. I just can't get through it. I end up falling asleep or wandering off or daydreaming. It's just so...deadly. I mean, BC was great and everything, but jeez! Talk about boring.
I think TCW will do well, despite the animal scenes. I have no basis for my opinion. 😁

I agree with your ideas sgev on how a negatively received TCW will impact on the other project. And further more I don't see the writers or producers of the ER project watching TCW and saying (IF it did indeed fail) "Well now we will change out version!". First off the other project has a very different storyline from what I understand, with the emphasis on very different aspects from TCW, so why would they have so little faith in their own artistic vision?
Secondly, it boggles my mind still how just three random fans can be held up as any type of arbiters of whether TCW has "problems" or not. As sgev said two of these three come to the table with lots of baggage concerning BC, HW and his company. Lots of credibility flags pop up on that fact alone. I wouldn't put any stock in what that site says. Period. The whole site just seemed like sa big dick measuring contest to me.
It's like going to the site Your Fav Is Problematic and reading their comments about BC and then using their points to decide whether he is a moral person or not based on the comments on that site. Most people would ignore that sort of shit.
Most the time you can gauge if a movie has real problems from if it changes cast, directors, producers or other key people in mid stream (during filming) and/or if it is heavily delayed during filming/editing. TCW doesn't fit this mold at all. It was done in a timely fashion and once things were set and filming started it went off without a hitch as far as I know.
Also it is obvious (at least to me) that HW et al are tagging this film as Oscar material so they must have some sort of faith in it as well.
How does any of that spell "problems"? It has a great cast, a great release date, an interesting new-ish director and has some buzz about it being Oscar worthy.
Sounds pretty promising to me!
:-))

I am not really excited about TCW, never was, but I keep an open mind.

From what I can tell, that website really is run by a few very random young men. They have a right to their opinions and obsessions, as do we all, but they don't seem to have any more insight than anyone else. We could probably start our own award prediction site and get lots of hits if we had "Awards" or "Oscars" in the title.
I have a feeling Dunkirk is going to dominate this year. We'll know in a few weeks. The clips look amazing and the Academy loves WWII movies. I don't know if it has designated lead actors, though. They may fall into the supporting categories.
