So DS didn't win the Oscar for Visual Effects - The Jungle Book did. I didn't see any of the movies that were its competitors so I really can't personally judge them. I just know that from what I read all the films were pretty well regarded. Still it would have been nice if DS had of won. :-))

Well, of course I wanted DS to win, but oh well. I didn't see TJB, but from what I have seen although the CGI looked amazing, it didn't seem as unusual or creative as DS. We've seen super-realistically rendered animals before.

A reminder that the Critics’ Choice Awards are tomorrow night. Avengers Infinity War has two nominations, for Best Visual Effects and Best Action Movie. And The Grinch has a nomination for Best Animated Feature.

LOL. They are desperate!!!
I’m always been cynical about awards but recently they are becoming hateful! And I’m not talking just about the ceremony or the voters but because all the ridiculous context and they trying to appease their new insane critics.
They were fading away for years but all the recent hysteria about doing the politically correct thing or just something really popular is kind of accelerating the process!

I’m pretty much over them. I find it distasteful to see the displays of conspicuous consumption, lavish gowns, gaudy jewelry and the flaunting of extreme wealth, with all the poverty and struggle in the world. It’s not uplifting, it’s disgusting. Add to that this room full of rich, beautiful people basically congratulating themselves for being rich and beautiful and I feel sickened. I’m exaggerating, of course, but there’s certainly a strong flavor of that going on. Yes, it’s supposed to celebrate talent, but that seems to take a back seat to popularity and “newness.” Fake gushing.
The red carpet especially, with that Giuliana Rancid (or whatever her name is) fawning and flinging her shallow bullshit all over is particularly painful. *shudder*
Unless Ben is there. Then, I’m riveted, lol. 😂

That rumour about the Avengers hosting the Oscars has been going around for weeks. It started as someone suggesting it as a way to give more attention to “popular” movies along with the Oscar-nominated ones.
I’ve always loved award shows, even if I haven’t seen anything nominated. But last night was the first time I deliberately skipped one - the SAG awards - because I was so angry that Benedict wasn’t nominated. I watched Victoria and Outlander instead.

I just read that Black Panther won the main award! LOL!
Again if they want to be inclusive why not to award someone who really deserved it like Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman cast! Instead they go for what frivolous Tumblr activists want! The easy mediocre but very popular option!
