BC's got more in development than seems likely he can actually do, as it is. And those are the things we know about, when the probability is that there are multiple other possibilities being juggled behind the scenes as well. So while I'm also very curious re what on Earth it is that he's referring to there, I'm also wondering what it might end up being in place of. One presumes it must be pretty interesting, though. Given that this new role has been referred to so publicly (even as without naming it and with the "probably about to take it"), it must surely mean that "whatever" is pretty much a done deal. I wonder how long it'll be before there's an announcement? Re what it is, a musical would certainly fit the "unlike anything he's done before" thing. And I do know he said long ago that he would like to do one, but he's a rather bigger fish in the pond now, and apart from "My Fair Lady" (which got dropped) I can't think of any musicals likely to be in development that would be obviously suited. And re the James Bond thing, I never thought BC was remotely appropriate for Bond, although I did think playing Fleming wasn't so far adrift. But the "no comment" comment made me laugh.

Maybe my English is failing me but I though he was saying that he was offered a kind of role/character he has never played before but it seems everyone thinks he is talking about movie genres. If that's the case the suggestion of musicals and horror are logic (although he once said he is not good watching horror movies so I guess he is not a fan of the genre).
If he is talking about roles then maybe a non posh character. I mean his character in Wreckers wasn't posh and he played a few in theatre but he is most commonly associated with those. Or a not very smart guy (although he played one in August:Osage County)

Maybe he'll play a playboy cop or a playboy factory worker ...or a playboy priest. I hope we find out soon. SaveSave

Or maybe a playboy prostitute! Sorry but I follow a Twitter account that make this polls about classic movies and immediately after I posted that comment here they asked what was your favorite prostitute in movies and they included characters played by both male and female actors and I though: "well, that is a character he hasn't played yet!"
He played a cop who talked about... female anatomy in Four Lions so I guess he already played the playboy cop!
He acted in a mob movie but he didn't played a mobster so that's another one!

It does sound like he's describing the actual role and not the genre, but I suppose it could refer to both.

During the panel, he asked the audience for their suggestions for which roles he should take on, and I think he made a comment about other people knowing what's best for him. I'm wondering if he's thinking about how he was the only actor considered for Sherlock, or how Doctor Strange came to be - a reporter suggested he'd be perfect for it, and eventually the opportunity came up. It seems like he's not going around looking for parts to play - he's open to others' ideas and he's letting the great parts find him. Or maybe I'm reading too much into what he said!

I think he was playing with the audience and a reference to the suggested roles by others that have worked for him in the past but IMO the very existence of his company is an example of him searching for the roles he really wants.

I was presuming if he appeared in that genre then his role would probably involve singing and possibly dancing. He's not really done either in a role before as far as I know. I don't really count the odd snippets here & there.

This is what I think as well sgev. I think he is always observing others reactions and open to ideas for roles but he also is probably very active in searching for material that interests him and in which could be folded into a role for him. I would like see what he can do as a producer and even maybe a director (which he has said that he would be interested in doing in the future). I think he has a very deep creative well from which to draw on. :-))
