My local tv news just did a story about Alan Turing and his £50 bank note! They played clips from The Imitation Game (the trailer, I think) while the reporter spoke. She began by saying that Benedict had played Turing in the 2014 movie.
I think all the mentions of TIG today may get more people to see the movie. More than one tweeter has said something like “I didn’t know that that movie was about Alan Turing!”, and they intended to watch it now.
Edit - What a coincidence! On Jeopardy tonight, they had a question about Alan Turing. The category was famous quotes, and they had to identify the mathematician who said “Can machines think?” The contestant got it right.

In honour of Remembrance Day tomorrow, our local tv news did a story tonight about a 95-year-old woman who worked as a code-breaker during WWII. She lives in a nearby city now, but at age 18 she joined the British Royal Navy. She didn’t know at the time that her job would be decoding German messages. They interviewed her and her son for the story. He said that she rarely talks about her experience during the war, but she was willing to wear her medals for the news story.
Her son said that he grew up hearing lots of stories from his war-hero father, but had no idea that his mother had made such an amazing contribution, too - which she couldn’t tell anyone about until the 1970’s. During the interview, they showed images of the compact machine she used to decode messages, which was a smaller version of the one created by Alan Turing. They showed a picture of Turing, and then showed clips from The Imitation Game and said that all of it was shown in the 2014 movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch.
Watching this interview, it occurred to me that the movie will forever be associated with that time in history. Any time they talk about codes or code-breakers or WWII, they will show clips from the movie and Benedict as Alan Turing. I wonder if they knew at the time that the movie would turn out to be so important?

I just saw what it seems is an adult man on Twitter discussing with someone else about gay representation on Star Wars! The guy ended saying it still was a big problem in Hollywood and as example claimed BC demanded changes on TIG script to, I assumed, not to play gay sex scenes!!! That it's a big lie! I as others could read the early Black List script from years before BC was even attached and it didn't have any gay sex scenes! I won't discuss with anyone on Twitter about it because they tend to have an agenda and won't never admit being wrong (so probably he would end making fun of my mediocre English or something similar!) But I thought it would be cool to post here a pair of interviews that contradict what that guy was saying so fans don't doubt of BC: www.google.com/amp/s/www.mandatory.com/fun/757623-tiff-2014-interview-graham-moore-screenwriter-imitation-game/amp

I remember the complaining about the lack of sex scenes when the movie came out - and yes, a lot of the complaints were aimed at Benedict because people assumed he had refused to act in those scenes. So when I took my sister to see it, she said she was shocked that the movie had been as explicit as it was. From the complaints, she figured that his homosexuality had only been hinted at, when in fact it had been addressed and talked about in the movie.

I remember some very random comments by obscure Tumblr kind of fanatics but besides of them I don't remember no one accusing BC of not wanting do sex scenes! The criticism was aimed to the scriptwriter who always took the responsibility (also the script was widely circulated for years so a lot of people had already read it, including me!). That's why I said it was an adult man! Why is he behaving as an insecure teen girl and fabricating/believing lies about celebrities just to portrait himself as an "heroic" SJW?!

I just found an old review by the great Amy Taubin. It's actually not positive but it's very nice about BC's performance (and Knightley's)! She even seemed excited about his "next" role as Hamlet! I am a fan of her work. I used to read her on Film Comment. She is one of the best! I remember I was very surprised when I discovered she is an old woman writing about films for ages because she "sounds" young and edgy! Her age doesn't matter: she is young and edgy. Much more than most actual young new critics out there (the craft is increasingly becoming "old": very moralistic and conservative). She also has championed Jane Campion's work since always. I can't wait to read her review (she surely will write something!) of The Power of the Dog! Anyway, this what she wrote about BC: www.artforum.com/film/amy-taubin-on-the-imitation-game-49926I was surprised to find a TIG review there. Most of her reviews are about much more artistic films and auteur filmmakers!

I know I’ve posted this photo before, but here it is again! I’m in the third photo in this tweet. Well, part of me is! You can see me right between the two security men behind Benedict. That’s my hair, my black jacket, and my hands holding the photo that I was seconds away from getting Benedict to sign.
