It's insane! THR fired Todd McCarthy!

That’s an interesting article. It’s funny to read that Jethro, from The Beverly Hillbillies, once got him fired! The movie he referred to, Ode To Billy Joe, really did deserve the bad review he gave it. I went to see it with my best friend when it came out. After all these years, I still think back to it now and then, and wonder why they couldn’t have come up with a better story. The other thing I remember about it was that Jethro - Max Baer Jr.- was in it. He had a small part playing somebody’s brother, I think. I had never seen him in anything else before then (or even since then). And now I learn that he also directed it! I hadn’t gone to enough movies at that point in my life to sit and read through the end credits - I started doing that in the 80’s.
Now I’m curious to know why he had wanted to be interviewed by the film critic, and what he could have said that he hoped would change the critic’s opinion of the movie.

I haven't watched Tenet. I'm not a Nolan's fan. And I'm increasingly disappointed of contemporary film critics, TBH, I doubt it's about Covid-19, modern critics have years being worried about having a different opinion to the Rotten Tomato's consensus! Pathetic!

Most filmmaking, like everything regarding sports & other entertainments, have become all about the money, and the critics are along for the ride. It’s disheartening, but there ya go. Everything must be hyped! Good for this guy for speaking up.

I like some of Nolan's movies, not necessarily the ones people like. For instance, Memento bored me to death.
The comments and reviews I saw of Tenet are kind of mixed.

I like some of his films too but I haven't seen most of his latest ones. I liked Memento and loved Following! I also liked Inception. But I don't really like comic book movies so I haven't seen any of those. I have seen Dunkirk and Interstellar but I can't say I was impressed with either. They were OK-ish. To me, Following was his very best work and that was made on a shoestring budget!

I never watched Following. I liked Insomnia and Memento although I was disappointed when I discovered that there was a Seinfeld episode that did the same "original" trick that Memento but probably better because it was comedy!
I feel I wasn't interested in his films anymore after I watched both The Prestige and Batman Begin. Both extremely pretentious, shallow and humorless.

This is kind of ironic because I kind of mentally link this critic and his publication with woke culture but at the same time it’s not surprising,
That’s an awful review by a very mediocre film reviewer but a bit of info: the girl in underwear during the very first shot of that movie isn’t Johansson but Coppola herself. She didn’t use the actress because she was still a minor!

I’ve never seen any of those movies and I don’t remember ever hearing that they were supposed to be great comedies.
I think I saw a bit of 40-Year-Old Virgin on tv, but I don’t remember enjoying it enough to watch it to the end.

I didn’t even read the article, mllemass! But the Lost in Translation review quoted on the tweet is awful! And I’m not even talking about the “horniness” of this guy over a teenager (He wasn’t the only one then even when they now are all chaste saints!)) but the review is incredibly awfully written!
