Sorry, so I just came back from the NT Richard III with Ralph Fiennes and I felt an urgent desired to re-watch the Hollow Crown with Benedict just to bask in his brilliance. I am not sure if I am biased, but I positively hated Fiennes Richard. I liked him in a lot of things, Grand Budapest Hotel recently, but as Richard he was a complete disappointment: just repugnant, with no charisma or magnetism. Worse that this, I keept seeing Fiennes declaming Richard's lines, instead of seeing Richard.
I need Benedict doing more Shakespeare!

The thing that most struck me about BC in The Hollow Crown and Hamlet is the way he makes Shakesperian verse sound like modern conversational language. He and Kenneth Branagh are the two best speakers/interpreters of Shskespearian text that I've ever heard. And I've heard a lot!!!

I need Benedict doing more Shakespeare! 100% agree with you Muriel!!! I think he was born to do Shakespeare. His rendition of Richard in The Hollow Crown was one of the finest (if not the finest) of his performances ever. I treasure my DVD of THC. More stage work would of course probably mean less other movie and TV work, but still the thought of him up on stage, taking the bard's words and creating such theatrical magic with them is enough to override my own selfish desires to see him more often in various kinds of film. He's that good IMO. I loved seeing his Hamlet. I know they won't but I have longed for the National Theatre to put out DVDs of his performances. :-))

It is on youtube (Judi Dench as lady Macbeth): the best I have ever seen! I used to love Branagh but haven't been impressed by him lately and I didn't like his Macbeth particularly. Strangely enough, Macbeth is one role I am not dreaming to see Benedict play. But one day I would love to see him as King Lear (if I will be still alive then, lol!)

I saw Peter Ustinov play Lear in 1980 and he was magnificent. The chances of me living long enough to see BC play that part is remote to slim but I think it would be a wonderful role for him.
I think I would also like to see him tackle the Scottish King, especially after seeing what he did as Richard III.
It would be a great experience seeing him saying these words in their full context -
To-morrow, and to-morrow, and to-morrow, Creeps in this petty pace from day to day, To the last syllable of recorded time; And all our yesterdays have lighted fools The way to dusty death. The Hollow Crown - War of the Roses captured a 2016 Falstaff award for Best Film in any Medium - www.playshakespeare.com/falstaff-awards/falstaff-awards-2016I do hope this magnificent piece of performance by BC (and indeed the whole Hollow Crown production crew) get further recognition. This makes me very, very happy. :-))

BC’s performance as RIII remains my favourite performance of his. I LOVE Shakespeare, I love the the density of the character and I am completely mesmerized by BC’s RIII !
I couldn’t ask for anything more really! It pleases me to no end when I hear or see someone giving BC his just due for this sterling performance.

Just making my way through this one, to the part where Edward has his son. Not really enthused so far but trying to watch as many of Ben’s work as possible, but seems over the top in acting and violence so far. Guess that’s the point. Hoping second disk of Blu-ray with more focus on Richard will bring me back in.
