Just finished listening to the interview and WOW it was wonderful! Absolutely loved every minute of it.
I loved that he got a chance to talk indepth about his schooling - I know a lot of it was old hat but he has a way when he is talking about it to make it seem like he is reliving it and adds all sorts of little details that make it even more interesting.
I thought the interviewer was excellent and asked the kind of questions that got BC taking a retrospective look at how his career has gone and how it impacts his current situation.
Loved BC's conversation about HW. He sees him in a very realistic light - not always a great guy but he does acknowledge (what I feel as well) that the man has helped bring to the public some absolutely wonderful movies that never would have had as widespread chance if it were not for him.
Loved, loved, LOVED the part about "the palate cleanser"! And BC's tribute (albeit guarded) to the love of his children and Sophie and how they are the true thing that he treasures and keeps him not getting too much into the world of "Hollywood". The tone of his voice when he said those things was so emotional.
His talk about TCW was exciting for me and made me want to see the movie even more!
This interview was one of the best I have ever heard!!

He interviewed him a few years ago for a BAFTA thing, I think. It was great. You can see he does his homework which sadly it's not common right now.
Not a fan of award pundits but he is indeed a great interviewer.

Is he the one who had Benedict fly all the way to the US for an interview about TIG, only to turn around and give the movie a bad review? In this interview, he doesn't exactly praise TIG when he talks about it. I think he says it turned out to be a bigger success than was maybe expected.

I had to smile at that part because he's done this before. He says something like "I don't want to talk about my family because it's private and none of your business . . .", and then he mentions Sophie and the children! And he says it all really, really fast and in hushed tones so that it's like it doesn't really count because his family is private and how dare you even ask about them! And nobody did ask!
Poor Benedict - he really does want to talk about them but can't because of the crazies out there. He says, I think, that they're only 2 in a thousand fans but they cause a lot of problems. So I'm wondering if they've attempted more damage than we're aware of.

In that podcast interview he did go into it briefly about how (I think he said) fantastically horrific the hate was, which gave me the shivers, frankly.
I laughed too about him having to run out to get a pint of milk for his kids and how he still does that (and joked about having his "minions" do it for him). I totally agree with you - you can just tell he would dearly love to talk about his kids in a general sense sometimes (when the mood strikes him and with this interviewer he obviously was very comfortable with him and was in a very good mood). It is such a big part of his life and as TS said his world revolves around them and that is everything imp0ortant to him as a person.
His voice was so emotional when he talked about Sophie and the kids.

I haven't tried to listen to it yet, but picked up on the comment earlier about BC saying he's now wanting to work with some great directors and that they know who they are. I agree that that's what his career is lacking a bit, but I'm not sure that he necessarily means what people might think he means by that.
The first presumption is that he wants to work with some of the famously more prestigious directors like Scorcese, Spielberg et al (I do think he'd love to work with Scorcese but it's not too likely). And part of such might well be that he wants that experience as part of his learning curve before trying directing something himself later. But the difficulty with the biggest directors is that they choose their own material, to effect, and the chance of their happening to be working on something with what might be a great role for BC (that isn't automatically going to be a Leo Dicaprio role, or the like) is actually pretty tiny. But BC should be aware of what might be in the works, and might therefore effectively be campaigning for specific roles that he knows are up for grabs. Any guesses?
But BC referring To "great directors" doesn't necessarily mean he's referring to the very biggest names. So, alternatively, and given his function as producer now as well and with the prospective full schedule of projects that we already know about at Sunnymarch, BC might also have been (at least in part) referring to directors that he's trying to get to work with him on things there. One hasn't seen it yet, of course, but it sounds like the director for "The Child In Time" has been really, really good but the "War Magician", " Rogue Male", "how To Stop Time" and "The Man In The Rockerfeller Suit" etc films would certainly benefit from a director with a "name" as well. So there must be conversations happening re those and he might also have been including Luca Guadagnino re "Rio" in his reckoning too. It certainly won't have hurt to stroke any egos potentially involved by including to them in a "great director" category.
