Last night I was lucky enough to see Ennio Morricone on the Irish leg of his farewell tour. I just wanted to say if any of you get the opportunity to see him in your location then grab it if possible.
If ever there were an argument for the belief that some people's talent is bestowed by the divine then he is it. His music is sublime and even at one year off 90 his command of the orchestra is total.
His score for The Mission is so beautiful it makes me cry and last night it was good to see I'm not the only one! I didn't feel so self conscious when I heard the man behind me and saw the woman in front of me sniffing their way through it. 😄

I haven't ever had the opportunity to see him perform live but I can say I love his orchestrations completely!
Your description of his talent is spot on!
One of my favourite movies (Casualties of War) was scored by him and it so perfectly suited this film that I can't think of the scenes from it without hearing the soundtrack in my head!
He is truly a master at what he does.
Very happy you had the chance to experience his magic in person!
:-))

His music in Cinema Paradiso is some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. Long before iTunes, I had to go out and buy a cd of movie scores just to get that one piece of music. Whenever the movie airs on tv, I have to have it playing, even if I'm not watching (but, of course, I am watching!)
Didn't he get an honorary Oscar a few years ago? I remember that they showed clips of all the movies he scored, and his family was there in the audience.

He finally won an Oscar outright last year for his score for The Hateful Eight but I believe he was robbed when he didn't win for The Mission. That score is beautiful beyond words.
