So right SGev! Someone started this twitter thread of similar movies that came out the same year, and they included tv shows Sherlock and Elementary, too. I’ve been reading the comments about which is better (Elementary seems to be ahead), but I’m surprised that so many people are still bitter about the supposed “gay-baiting” in Sherlock. We’re never going to get S5 with this kind of talk! The “came out the same year” folks seem to forget that Elementary followed Sherlock, and launched 2 years later, after CBS unsuccessfully approached Moffat and Co about adapting the BBC show for that network. Each series had its strengths and weaknesses, and people can obviously prefer one over the other, but it’s silliness to claim they came out at the same time.

That "gay-baiting" issue was ALL in some JOHNLOCKERS/TJLCERS heads. They're just still bitter that things didn't go the way they wanted it to in the series. There was only "gay-baiting" if you were determined to "interpret" every moment between two characters as something the actual creators of those characters clearly stated was NOT going to happen.
But a certain LOUD and AGGRESSIVE faction decided that they knew better than the actual writers and embarked on a campaign to 1) try and DISCREDIT the writers/creators of the series professionally and personally, and 2) take fanfic fantasies and warp them into bullshit "meta" arguments that "proved" that JLers/TJLCers' POV was the driving force of the show.
No wonder the creatives decided just to pack it in! None of them (including the cast and crew) needed that kind if invasive crap and HARASSMENT in their lives!
And I don't blame them!
Would I like to see more "Sherlock" someday? Sure, if the busy schedules of the cast and crew could accommodate it. But definitely NOT if it means a resurrection of TJLC/gay-baiting nonsense!
The show wrapped up perfectly as far as I am concerned, so I'm happy with what we got.
As for the "#norbury/gay-baiting" crowd... they burned their bridges behind them when they made a public campaign to get M&G fired from the BBC. So if they are still hanging around, willing to take uncalled for potshots at the makers, then I say FORGET ABOUT IT! Put a monument and some flowers on the show's grave and remember it for what it was - a life well lived!

I think you can give sincere and objective criticism of some aspects of the series. I have always admitted that I'm not a big fan of it but Tumblr/Twitter's SJW "critics" are just fangirls obsessed with slash fan fiction who shamelessly attack not just the serie but also the actual gay creator alleging some kind of offence in name of LGBTQ rights. They are disgusting!
If anything, Sherlock should be celebrated because not just one of the two creators/writers is openly gay but also one of its stars. It also is produced by two very powerful women (mother and daughter) but somehow all of them are erased by critics who ironically gave all the credit to Steve Moffat. I guess being outraged is more important than celebrate the success of the minorities they are supposedly defending!

A bit off topic - it looks like Outlander’s Sam Heughan has been the target of the same psychos as the ones who attack Sherlock.
Groups of his fans and Outlander fans have denied having any part of those attacks. I think there are people out there who do nothing but accuse actors and tv shows of homophobia. They just move from target to target, depending on who’s popular at the moment.

I saw his post early today. Poor guy! TBH I don't even know who he is! It make you think about what kind of shit actors with a slightly higher profile as BC receive! Of course, they also should have more resources to protect themselves and their families.
Those kind of "fans" are a minority, probably insignificant but they are creepy and yes, they sound dangerous!

I wouldn’t know this man if I tripped over him, but my heart goes out to him. It’s unbelievable how much crap certain famous people have to put up with. Some folks don’t have healthy ways of dealing with...whatever they’re dealing with. And it always follows the same pattern, doesn’t it?
With the rise of social media I’ve been shocked at how many mental cases there seem to be just wandering around in the world, spreading untold amounts of hate and stupidity in their wake. It really makes me fear for the human race at times.

The attack is from former fans who shipped him with his co-star Caitriona Balfe from Outlander. They are like the worst part of Johnlockers, TJLC. More than shippers they were tinhatters. Also, they're even worse because they're shipping real people not the characters.
They had this theory that they were a couple.
She got married but her marriage is obviously fake.
In the last days or weeks SH was in Hawaii, apparently with a model. So it was obviously all PR and then some started with the theory that he was homosexual and the model his beard. Also, they started saying that he was not respecting the quarantine.
It is incredible because these crazies follow all the same patterns.
I remember when BC and SH went to see the whales and some "fans" contacted the people with the service to see if it was OK that a pregnant woman engage in those activities. Because of course she wasn't pregnant.

I remember I was debating with someone on IMDb about why it wasn't possible that BC's marriage and his wife's pregnancy were just a pr stunt to win an Oscar when I suddenly realized that she was beyond any reason. It sounds naive now but then I imagined they were just little girls influenced by all those nasty and ridiculous gossip blogs that claimed to work in Hollywood. They really were influenced by them so I hold them responsible for creating the phenomenon on BC's particular case (even when the one that fabricated the conspiracy later made fun of BC's crazy fans!) But there were something more: they really were deranged and I just suddenly understood it while talking to her! I remember I just told her: "Please, seek help!" She was obviously very offended but I swear I was being sincere. She really needed professional help. They all need it! And that's the nicest thing I could tell to them!

Yeah, it’s some type of derangement. It fascinates and repels me in equal measure.
I read somewhere a theory that they get pulled into these conspiracy theories b/c it starts with them not feeling well and they’re not getting satisfaction from their doctors. So they start poking around the internet, looking for cures, and the next thing they’re reading about how eggs or bananas cure “tired blood” or whatever they think they have, and then they start falling into these holes of ”this celebrity swears by goose grease/monkey glands/whatever” and so they keep poking and falling further into interwebz nonsense and the next thing you know they’re talking about aliens living inside the moon controlling the earth. So if that’s true, why shouldn’t there be fake marriages, fake babies, evil women, forced drug addiction, and closeted gay men being controlled by powerful outside interests for nefarious purposes?
I mean: Ben & Sophie Rob Patterson & Kirsten Stewart Meghan & Harry Harry & Larry This Outlander couple
There must be a million more, and its all the same story...

I remember a friend of mine asking me once if Benedict was gay. I told her no, I didn’t think so, and she asked how I could be sure. I told her that if he was gay, we’d know because he wouldn’t be hiding it. I don’t know Benedict at all, but he has never seemed like the kind of person who lies about who he is. And Sam Heughan, who I know even less, seems like that, too.
His Outlander character, Jamie, may be living in the 18th century, but they’ve made him very open-minded about all sorts of things. They’ve had scenes before where men flirt with him, and he rejects them - just as he rejects the women who flirt with him. Because they don’t show him disgusted by the thought of being with another man, viewers figure he must be open to it but doesn’t act on it because he’s happily married to Claire. And, of course, they’re confusing the character with the actor!
