It's time to vote. Which is BC's top crying scene? Does he cry in TCW?
If you want to add another movie, please comment.

Yes, of course he does! (It's a very sad scene)
I honestly think that the crying scenes are put in when the directors discover Benedict's special skill.

It's actually beginning to bug me that he cries in *everything.* Yes, he's good at it, and yes, it's probably in the script, but sometimes it seems a bit "tricky."

I think that in these two movies the scenes were not artificially put there.
Now, Doctor Strange didn't need to cry for TAO, imo, and Khan shouldn't have cried either.

The crying scene in STID actually made me laugh because I watched it after I first discovered Benedict's previous work and noticed a pattern of tears. I imaged that they were rehearsing that scene and he said to the director, "JJ, would you like me to cry when I say that line?". And JJ replied "Cool!" and high-fived him. Or something like that.

Well, I love the fact that BC has cried in many of his roles. One of my favourite scenes in To the Ends of the Earth is when he cries while listening to the woman singing during the ball. It just sort of leaks out of his eyes and certainly telegraphs exactly how vulnerable his character was.
He has such an expressive way of crying and every time it seems a bit different. I also loved his tear in STiD. It was totally different from the gut wrenching tears in the principle's office in TCiT. One was so controlled and measured while the scene from TCiT was just out of control, bubbling up and something that overtook Stephen and overwhelmed his whole body. Lovely metaphorical tie-in with him gasping for breath as he submerged his body under water in the tub, both symbolic of Stephen with his struggling to come to terms with the absence of his daughter. "Keep breathing" - amazing moments in this film.
And when he was talking about ending his life in Third Star around the campfire at Barafundle Bay... it is my favourite scene of the whole film. There is such an intensity of feeling behind those tears and he delivers the lines while crying with such clarity and directness. It is the driving force of the entire movie IMO.
Third Star and TtEotE should be added to the survey - they are among his best! And STiD.

When he cries at the beginning of TtEotE as he's struggling with the mal de mar makes me laugh. Poor boy! He's so uncomfortable and wretched and I'm positive he's never experienced any privation before in his life. Yes, Ben always makes each crying scene unique and different and part of the character, but I just get tired of it in every film. That's why we need a good comedy!

His performances in both movies were very real. Actually he said he totally lost control in the TIG scene and it's very clear in its realism but the movie around him:the dialogues, the old Hollywood style of the production and in general the artificiality of the style moderate the rawness of his acting in a way TCIT didn't so I voted for the latter.

In TCW, the crying is very subtle, and maybe not even noticeable to someone not looking for it like I was! And it was totally appropriate for the scene - my favourite scene in the movie. I hope that's not one of the scenes they plan to change!
