I am thrilled to bits that BC and Sunnymarch are expanding their horizons into TV productions and that he is truly pursuing his plan to keep involved in smaller more personal interest projects like Rogue Male and The Child in Time.
It all fits in so nicely with him wanting to stay close to his family and centre his work in the UK and and, along side of the occasional bigger Marvel type franchise role, focus also on films that stress the small scale aspects of humanity in them.
In one of his more recent interviews in the Japan Times, speaking about working on DS and big budget movies, he stated -
This is obviously a man who is deliberating carefully about how he approaches his work and yet at the same time not making a rigid path for himself - keeping his options open so he doesn't get trapped into a fixed type of work.
Looks like very interesting times ahead for BC and his fans.

Sounds like a very deliberate choice, to effect, to me too.
And such a surprise! Completely from the left field! Someone said this sounds more interesting than Rogue Male, and I can't say I entirely agree with that, but it's certainly interesting.
The premise does sound intriguing, but I have to say that Ian McEwan is no favourite of mine. I might have done him an injustice, but I've only ever read one of his, and hated that so much, I never touched another.
I wonder when they've got this intended to go into production?

This sounds great! So, coming up we have the Grinch, Jungle Book, Avengers, Thor: Ragnarok, The Current War, Rogue Male, War Magician and now Child in Time?

"I'm going to take a break from acting."
Uh huh. Sure, Ben. 😂

Well, tbh, Thor: Ragnarok will be probably just a cameo and Rogue Male and War Magician are kind of nebulous for the time being. I will believe when I see them happen. There have been quite a lot of projects that never came to life - or when they did, he wasn't attached to them any more: like the last city of z, Blood Mountain, Yellow Birds, Flaying Horse...

This movie has a director and it seems the script is finished so I am guessing that it could happen soon. The shooting shouldn't be very long so surely he could easily accommodate it between his Marvel commitments.
I'm intrigued dreamsincolour, which book you read? I have read a few of his novels and I think he is great.
About the adaptations of his books, I haven't watched a lot of them I'm not a big fan of Atonement but it was good, I guess. I enjoyed Enduring Love with Daniel Craig, Rhys Ifans and Samantha Morton. I checked his filmography and I'm in shock, he wrote the script for The Good Son with Macaulay Culkin!!! LOL. Apparently he hated the experience so much as the crtics hated the movie.

According to his IMDb filmography, The Jungle Book and Thor: Ragnarok are both in post-production, so they shouldn't need much of his time.

The book I seriously disliked ("hate" probably wasn't the best word) was "The Comfort Of Strangers". It must have been 25 years ago or so that I read it, and I don't even remember it well, but I've never even considered reading any of his other books since. My loss, probably!

"I'm going to take a break from acting." Uh huh. Sure, Ben. 😂 To be completely fair (and maybe a bit too serious - sorry ) he did do exactly that. From the GQ magazine article that quote comes from - His "break" was the 2 months after he finished the pick-ups in LA. So I believe him when he says that he will break up the big projects with time off (for his family) and doing smaller more personal projects that keep him close to home and his wife and kids. BTW: (not that this has anything to do with your post, but in looking up the context of it I read the whole interview again) I loved that GQ interview because I think the interviewer got to the core of some of the dichotomy BC feels trying to balance his naturally enthusiastic, talkative personality, who wants to connect with everyone on a very honest, personal level, with the more cautious, a bit "weary and leery" person who has been skewered in some media for saying things spontaneous things from the heart. At the heart of things he just wants to do right by his family and live his life the best he can. He has often said that some days his celebrity is something he wears lightly and other days it is much more of a burden to him. His job demands a certain level of exhibitionism and yet it is equally important to his well being (and his family's) to keep his private, intimate life away from the glare of the invasive media machine. It can't be easy to strike a balance. But I think he is doing it with as much grace and thoughtfulness as he can. :-))

There have been quite a lot of projects that never came to life - or when they did, he wasn't attached to them any more: like the last city of z, Blood Mountain, Yellow Birds, Flaying Horse... A lot of projects obviously indeed never come to fruition in practice, but I've been thinking that while Sunnymarch is still in its relative infancy, projects that have got as far as being announced are somewhat less likely to stall. Mind you, while I don't remember the detail, I do recall some comment/s that rather indicated they have a lot of potential projects on the go even if they are still in their infancy. And announcements are very often to purpose to try to sound out potential interest from buyers and backers, so I may have been thinking wrong. But still, while I'm not as sure about "Rogue Male", I rather thought "The War Magician" was being put on a relatively fast track. I don't know about anything recently (haven't checked) but Gary Whitta did used to post the occasional comment about the TWM script. First it was finished and then it was having to be adapted to "Cumberbatch it", to effect, as I recall. And obviously subject to the script meeting approval (that's what would seal or break the deal, obviously), that sounded to me as if it was wanted re intended production sooner rather than later. Where this later TV film will come in the scheme of things is less clear (the television process is still slow), but unlike potential cinematic film productions, this'll be a safe bet to be made. And it'll be a pretty safe bet to make them some money with low risk too. BC certainly won't be doing it for personal financial gain.
