This is great,
Also the one actor agreeing loudly with him is, of course, also gay. They don’t want to play only gay characters as any REAL actor wouldn’t want to play only his own biography!

So Ripley is in black and white? Or is this only for the ads?
Why are people in the comments already saying they prefer the original? I remember liking it, but I don’t think it was ever considered a great masterpiece.

Got to disagree.
The original is one of my favourite films of all times. And although I'll try to see the remake with an open mind, it will have to clear a pretty high bar to equal or surpass the original IMO.
Not that hasn't happened a number of times to me - Far From the Madding Crowd, for one. Love the original thoroughly and didn't expect to love the remake but it was soooo good it clearly surpassed the original.
And I can say the same for All Quiet on the Western Front.
But it does make it harder when you have an excellent production from the past that will naturally be used as a measuring stick to a newer version.

Which one is the original? The Alain Delon’s film or Matt Damon’s?
I guess Damon’s is more known nowadays. I remember it was well received at the time but not necessarily acclaimed. It seems to have gained a lot of reputation with time, tho. It was one of those Weinstein films that for whatever reason didn’t make it so good at the Oscars even when it was considered a contender thanks to the starry cast so it didn’t receiving a lot of backlash probably that helped it. As probably helped that even when it was a very pretty film to watch it also felt kinda twisted and dark. And sadly it probably was also fondly rewatched by many after the untimely death of Anthony Minghella. In retrospective, it’s probably his best film even when it wasn’t so awarded as others by him.

I was referring to the Matt Damon version. It's the only one I've seen.
The main reason I love that film is for Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance (I adored him as an actor) but all the cast was great. It had loads of atmosphere, a bendy-twisty plot and yet wasn't too esoteric.
I didn't follow movie critics back then so I don't remember what the reception was like and I wasn't following the Oscars either so I wasn't aware of any advantages/disadvantages it had in that race.
All I really know is every time I've watched (and I've watched it a number of times) I've always had the greatest desire to watch it again.
It's a movie that's stuck with me.🙂

I was about to write that Philip Seymour Hoffman’s was nominated for the Oscar for this but I checked and he wasn’t! lol He won the National Board of Review award, tho.! He was great as the very rich, snob and slightly nasty accidental victim of Ripley (he was smart, tho. He could see through him) but it was a small role, I guess.
Jude Law was the one who was nominated for the Oscar and for multiple awards. He was very sexy and seductive here and surely deserved it but I think Matt Damon was overlooked. I remember that some people didn’t liked his interpretation but I think it was a great one. He certainly isn’t so attractive like Alain Delon (WHO IS?! Nobody!!!) but he was great as an almost invisible nobody without a real personality but also a psychopath who could easily imitate those more interesting than him. I even loved Gwyneth Paltrow! I think there was a feminist statement at the end when no one believes her (even when she is a rich heiress!) just because a male contradicts her and calls her crazy. You can feel her desperation!

This award is more serious because they are critics. I thought it was nice that two Sherlock alums are there! Just read those names!
BAFTA is just too Hollywood and TBH it seems those Saltburn guys bribed them or something! (I haven’t watched it but it wasn’t well received and seems to be loved only by teens on social media and BAFTA voters)
