Does "knock the corners off my accent" mean it is too fancy, or not fancy enough? I guess he is trying to not sound very “posh” considering he said “since I left Harrow” although the thing about having just one friend “from the landed gentry (with St. Aubyn’s very posh accent) is contradictory. I remember that The Telegraph gossip columnist making fun of him for sounding more middle class than posh in real life (“Since when he has that accent...”)
I would said yesterday that thank god he didn’t say that in an UK interview because the press there is weirdly obsessed with accents and who is posh and who isn’t when The Standard decided that the quote was the highlight of the article. Of course they did! www.standard.co.uk/news/londoners-diary/jacob-reesmogg-accused-of-being-a-big-softy-a3805351.htmlAt least it’s not an opinion piece!

I can't tell British accents apart. To my ears, there is 'Cockney' and 'Fancy-Sounding.' Variations of posh are lost on me.

I was thinking how the difficult part for the adaptation is the time. They are adapting each novel in just one hour episodes! Although TBF the books are more novellas than novels. The difficult one should be Mother’s Milk, the longest and most complex of all.
In the interview Nicholls says his adaptation (as the books) are “a series of scenes of a life, rather than a conventional on-going series” which sounds like the right approach to me but the explanation kind of give me flashbacks to people disappointed with The Child in Time for not having a straightforward plot! Still not supernatural or political subplot here so I hope a different reaction. Also this is for an American cable channel (the one that transmitted the now mythical episode 8 of Twin Peaks:The Return last year!) so I imagine its audiences are much more open minded with unconventional narratives than BBC followers. We will see!
