Makes total sense. And why not! He must be inordinately proud of this piece of work (seeing how he listed it as a dream role for him to do), being an executive producer, a major project for his new company, and it is of a much more major scope than TCiT (bigger budget, larger cast, further locations, etc.).
Awards may not necessarily mean better in quality but they do help a fledging company gain a bigger/better reputation in the business and thatt can be a huge benefit for getting better co-funding and distribution down the line. All indications point I think to the seemingly undeniable fact that he has big plans for SunnyMarch.
If this project could garner Emmy noms it will go a long way to establishing SunnyMarch as a force to be reckoned with in the future. So for the first time he is wearing his producer’s hat when it comes to promotion of a project he is deeply involved with.

That's pretty much my thinking as well, Roverpup. A lot of actors would like to think they should be above the need to campaign for awards and I think that's applied to BC. Most of what one's seen could be described as unusually visible (for TV) promotion, but I do think he's very aware of the advantages not just of promoting the series but of campaigning for awards for Patrick, to effect, too. Wearing the producer's hat as well has probably provided a somewhat different perspective. Many advantages indeed from setting "SunnyMarch" up as a real player in the greater scheme of things, beyond personal pride and feelings for the project.
He might have learnt a thing or two about the promotional processes as a bi-product of dealing with Weinstein, of course.

I’m wondering if the series even if it’s really good would be of voters taste. It's really dark stuff with very nasty characters in it. There is also Paterno which also is about child sexual abuse but that movie is based in a very talked and politicized case. That normally should make the film polemic and probably it is polemic but at the same time it seems it follows the ”approved” narrative about the case (I understand there are, like always with politicized cases, doubts about the accusations of complicity of Paterno but the film doesn’t clearly questioned it). Also it seems it’s a very solemn movie with clear heroes and villains. That’s not the case with Patrick Melrose. (David is clearly a villain, tho. He is easily one of the most disturbing characters ever!). It’s also based in a real life case but the story is more famous for the brilliance of the books than anything on newspapers. The books are comical but extremely brutal and Patrick is not exactly a “nice” victim. The same with Eleanor who is a victim but also a complicit of really abhorrent acts. The trailers themselves are becoming darker with any new released clip. And apart of all that, there is the structure of the plot. Of course, I haven’t seen them but if they follow the books as it seems they did, the episodes should be more anecdotically than something straightforward lineal.
Emmy voters are not known for their open minds so it should be interesting what they do of it. Some of them will watched the first episode next week. If they are well-adapted I can see them being more popular with critics but we will see. It’s not easy stuff to adapt! I really hope David Nicholls and Edward Berger did something extraordinary of those books.

Yes! I always love Variety's Actors on actors discussions! I do prefer when the pairings are a bit more unusual though, not that I have anything against Claire Foy.
So glad to see Jonathan Groff doing so well. I've liked him for years and years and have been waiting for him to make it big. Would have loved to have seen BC paired up with him.
