According to this person, who I don’t know who is (!!), he explicitly asked to the NYT not to retouch his photos: It was of course obvious they weren’t altered and I loved it when I saw te on they used on the article. There was another one very powerful taken a few years ago at TIFF. Again it’s just his natural face and it’s very powerfully real. |

That photo isn't retouched and it's also weirdly lit, giving him unflattering shadows. I love it!

I much prefer his natural look. Sometimes these magazine covers don't even look like him.
