I think he is a troll because a) it seems it's an anonymous account and b) he ended mentioning Dominic Cummings! Lol
EDITED Also it's very rude to directly tell someone that you didn't liked his (acclaimed) work because that other guy who was in your series played this other guy who I hate in another production by other people!

OMG! I just stopped following a BBC guy who answered to Nicholls' tweet in a very rude way! He's definitely not just a troll! He says he hated the book and is avoiding the series! He later called the book (in singular) "vile". I'm just speculating but the only thing I can think could disgusted him in such a way is the very explicit rape scene (but he is British so who knows? Maybe it was the class stuff!😉). It's indeed a horrible scene described in the most disturbing way but it was done by someone who actually survived that! He was in his right to tell his own story as he wanted even if it hurts the sensitivity of others!
And this made me think it all those silly people on social media policing other's people art without knowing the context or even trying to understand their point of view!
EDITED He is now attacking The Death of Stalin writer's work because he defended Nicholls! What an idiot! And I was following him for years! Lol.
EDITED 2, He explained why he hated it and believed it or not, he did not mentioned the rape! It was because the class sfuff!!! Lol British people are insane! (not all of you! Just the ones on Twitter! 😉) He is now calling "elitist" to some of the best scriptwriters in the country!

Oh dear... some of those Brits just can't handle the "class" stuff can they?! Any criticism of it is viewed with disdain unless it comes from a person they perceive as "worthy" of being able to dissect it (absolutely NO examination of it from an "insider"!). Really, this fellow seems to have missed the entire point of the books!

Haha! Every British work is about class, just as every American work is about race. It’s inseparable from the fiber and character of the nation. In Canada I think it’s about maple syrup, lol. Or maybe hockey or poutine. Or moose. 😂
But I guess only certain people should be allowed to examine class in a particular way. So, no making your British upper class protagonist sympathetic, amirite? 😉
What a tool.

I used to think here in Mexico our national obsession was...oil! Seriously, it used to be our national pride. It is still in our president's mind but things have changed so much: the industry is not working anymore, there was a lot of corruption for years and, of course, it's not the best option nowadays for multiple reasons.
There's this actually very good movie called La Rosa Blanca based in a story by a German writer, B. Traven (the author of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre). It's a depressing story of an Indigenous man owner of land with oil who is abused and ultimately killed by evil American businessmen (the main villain is clearly played by a German actor!). His dignified family falls in disgrace...until the wonderful Mexican government nationalized the sacred oil, with the help of the humble but faithful Mexican people and saved the country from the all powerful looters. Take that, gringos! Lol
I should read the book because again it's an interesting story but the ending of the film is pure propaganda! I doubt it's the same with the source material but who knows! Anyway, I remember teachers claiming the oil was everything! But that idea became progressively risible in the last two or three decades.
About the BBC journalist, I was driving and thinking during the whole trip: "wow! That guy was very rude!" Lol I know it's nothing new on social media but it's still surprising! Why someone would do that? And David Nicholls seems a really nice person. He is not even posh! Not that people should attack posh people on Twitter! Both books and series are actually a merciless attack to the British aristocracy. You have to be very dumb to think it celebrates British class system!

Hey, sgev, what’s your opinion on the Treasure of the Sierra Madre movie? I love that movie, but the portrayal of the bandits is really racist, imo. But then, I wonder if you’re a people scrounging a living in the Mexican mountain desert via robbery you might not be that clean or educated. Still, it’s pretty cringeworthy. I’m ignorant about that time period in Mexico in reality and interested in your viewpoint.

I also love that movie! I don't remember being offended by it. I mean the movie also portrays the Americans in a very negative light. Maybe I have to watch it again!
B Traven is revered here. He wrote a lot about Mexico. TBH I haven't read him but the adaptation of his books were always very realistic, cruel and slightly cynical. That's the case with the movie I mentioned above. He was clearly criticizing American imperialism and greed like he also did with The Treasure of the Sierra Madre but in La Rosa Blanca the tone suddenly change to propaganda! (I just googled the film and interesting enough it was actually censored by a Mexican government more sympathetic to Americans!)

Why are they calling it a “new” drama?
