I know it's too early but I just saw this tweet. I posted this here because we don't know yet how Patrick Melrose will be received:
I absolutely loved Twin Peaks and love Kyle MacLachlan since ever but I don't think his performance was so amazing as a few critics and award pundits say. His "Doggie" was delightfully silly and the evil doppelgänger was... well evil but I never thought "wow! this man is playing three different characters!!!!" He was!! But the three of them were just cartoons with one emotion each: Dale, heroic; Doggie-Dale, dumb and monosyllabic;the doppelgänger, bad! Still, he is the kind of actor who is so cool that I would like to see him win things even when I don't think he is a great actor!
It seems the favorite right now (for award pundits) is Darren Criss. I read a few of the early reviews and I remember one (The Guardian?) saying he was actually the weakest link with the supporting characters stealing the show. But I doubt they actually watched all the episodes by then.
I don't think anyone have seen the rest yet: Al Pacino, Cumberbatch, Antonio Banderas, Michael B. Jordan etc.
The other day I saw their prediction table and I think BC was the strongest contender for Patrick Melrose crew but he was sixth so according to them he is out. The others contenders were Jennifer Jason Leigh and the series itself.

How can he be out when the show hasn’t even aired yet? See, this is why I hate this awards nonsense. Folks making predictions out of their a$$es. 🙄

Well, that’s what they do! And it’s worst with movies! Yesterday the other even more hateful site posted a page for Guadagnino’s Rio (they don’t even know that’s not the name of the movie). They think JG has possibilities in the Best Actor category, BC in the Supporting Actor one and Michelle Williams in the Best Actress or maybe Supporting. They aren’t sure about her! Of course they don’t have any concrete idea about the actual plot of the film!
I thought how it was great that the film is not produced by Weinstein and it’s 100% European so most probably the first reactions will be by professional critics and not dumb award fanboys “crashing” a test screening.

Anything for clicks, I suppose, but these folks ought to think about how they’re lowering the quality of “journalism,” for everyone.

This is the main article they posted about BC and Patrick Melrose; www.goldderby.com/article/2018/benedict-cumberbatch-patrick-melrose-on-showtime-may-12-sherlock-emmy/#respondOne main aspect to consider with predictions, especially when you still don't know the reception, is the "seriousness" of the theme. They are of course strongly predicting it but I wonder how many of them really know the main theme of the series. Again it's kind of obvious in the excellent trailer IF you know the books but IMO the comedy kind of make you ignore the clues of the horrible sex abuse. I was thinking this after I watched Al Pacino's Paterno trailer. It looks also great! But even when they have a similar theme: child sexual abuse, the tone is much more (traditionally) solemn. Al Pacino is playing a guy who probably helped to hide or at least ignored a sexual predator (the equivalent of Jennifer Jason Leigh role) meanwhile BC plays the victim in Patrick Melrose. I haven't see the female contenders but casual or not it's fascinating how actual themes are reflect in these ceremonies.

More clickbaity stuff (sorry there is not too much info!). Also from Playlist and it has Patrick Melrose in the "spoilers" category but it's before the announcement of its premiere date. I guess it changes things a little! Interesting enough it agreed with me that the Versace series didn't have so stellar reviews. They were good but it's not a phenomenon like other series in other years. So it's interesting it's considered the one to beat! I guess it's because the American Story... franchise. www.indiewire.com/2018/03/2018-emmy-best-limited-series-miniseries-predictions-1201933642/I saw a blog in which the guy barely mentions BC as Best Actor, again in the spoilers section. The series and other actors are ignored.

Interestingly, did you see where Olivia deHaviland lost her lawsuit against Ryan Murphy? She is one heck of a lady with an amazing life, but so much for treating real life figures with respect if you make a film about them.

I think it’s good she lost because the precedent would had been awful and sadly in these days people doesn’t seem to care to much for free speech.
EDITED:
I just saw Awards Watch predictions. They have BC in but the series and Jason Leigh “just” like contenders. The Child in Time is also a contender in the TV movie category (I absolutely LOVED TCIT but I doubt PBS will even include something so intellectual and divisive. I don’t think it will even compete!)

Ha! PBS is barely promoting it now, never mind at Emmy season. When Downton Abbey was on, I got so many emails from PBS reminding me to watch it. So couldn't they send even one email about TCIT? Yes, it's still three days away, so there's still time . . .
