This video has the bits that were lost when the streaming stopped in the other videos. It's not too much but I liked when TH said BC said to him he had more fun playing The Creature than Frankenstain because he "was more wild, more free and more emotional":

OK, I’ve watched the video of BC accepting his award about a billion times so far and I still think my heart skips a beat when he talks about Sophie in this vid!! He obviously is so full of respect and admiration for her and she is just sooooo proud and mesmerized by him!!
But I also would like to point out that when he was talking about his mum saying that those things about him wearing a hat to this event he sounded just like Wanda’s voice when he said her imagined words. That has made me laugh EVERY TIME I have watched it! He just mimics voices of the people he is talking about almost automatically, I think!
And when he confesses about the “haircut” the camera cuts to a shot of Sophie and I love the way she giggles at the mention of the haircut!!
Another bit I love is when Ben acknowledges Karon as “a sister from another mother” Sophie leans slightly over and Karon and her share a small smile between them. Lovely moment!
This video is filled with a lot of lovely moments!

Maybe it's just the edition but people in that room seem genuinely happy for him. Most awards nowadays you just see gloomy and bored faces!

I’ve watched it a bunch, too. I love that he acknowledged Karon the way he did, and Loo looked pleased as punch! He certainly covered the bases, didn’t he, from Putin being a Cumberbitch, to help for the arts, horrible haircuts, bowing to those guys playing the trumpets... (what are they called? House cavalry?)
The room did seem very pleased for him, and without bashing American awards too much, perhaps it’s because the British actors are a different breed, and not just in it for the fame, like so many American actors. They truly love and believe in the power of the arts to reflect and transform society, and delight in words and craft.
I couldn’t tell if the other attendees knew it was for BC before Tom announced it. I’ve been trying to figure out why there was a collective gasp when he did. Obviously, Mark and a few others knew.
And Melvyn Bragg looked like he was tearing up, too. So sweet!

Of course his recorded speech was like 20 minutes long but they still seemed a very sad group of people!

Couple of things stood out for me—I was impressed how little he referred to notes, if at all.if you want to see how far he’s come, check out YouTube for his early acceptance speeches. Also, life imitating art—Lou is so clearly enamored. I could be wrong, but when Ben called Sophie his best friend, it looked to me that Lou was giving Sophie side eye. It was just a wonderful speech, he hit all the right notes. Happy Patrick Melrose was included, BAFTA better come through this time! Also loved Gators calling him his little brother. I could go on, but that’s enough. Gatiss damned autocorrect.

Sorry, but I didn't see that at all. And what is more, I doubt Loo would behave that way since she has always appeared very friendly with Sophie from what I have seen. I'd like to think that Loo would only feel joy for Sophie at the kind and loving words Ben said about her in his speech. In fact, I'm pretty confident that Loo would be sharing in Ben's admiration for Sophie. Of course Loo is a great and close friend of BC and very adoring of him, but that doesn't mean there is anything more between them. Men can have very close women friends too. My own husband is a case in point - one of his closest friends is a woman and it's been this way for 30 + years. I am very close to her too. But I am his "best friend" and visea versa. :-))

Just my opinion, and I don’t need a lecture on spouses being best friends. My late husband and I were best friends for over 30 years. And I certainly never implied that there was anything between Lou and BC.

Loo did cast a sideways glance at Sophie, but I don’t think it was shade. It might have looked that way, but Loo was smiling and obviously happy for Ben and Sophie. Imo. 😃
