🎼🎶 if you knew Sisi, Like I know Sisi, Oh! Oh! Oh! What a girl! 🎼🎶
😅🤣
Sorry! I just had to do that!
But seriously, Sisi was a fascinating person!
When we visited Austria it was very clear that even now she is a beloved figure.

I just watched something about her, too, but I can’t remember the title. It was a 6 part thing on Netflix, I think, or maybe Amazon Prime.
Here’s a Sherlock connection (because all roads lead to BC). Sisi was stabbed by a thin blade and killed by an anarchist in 1898 but because her corset was so tight she managed to live for a while as the corset acted kind of like a tourniquet. So all those who complained that the Sign of Three was ridiculous and that couldn’t have happened that way were wrong, lol. It’s based on a real life account.

Oh that Netflix-series (it‘s called „die Kaiserin“ ,The Empress) is horrible! I also watched it. There is absolutely nothing in it which depicts the real person, the way she was. And the make-up and costume designers must have smoked something, haha ☺️
„Corsage“ is the most historically accurate portrait of Sisi there is. She was very complicated.

I also believe all roads lead to BC 😂 You can see the real file she was murdered with in the museum in Vienna (amongst other objects that marked her life, including a cocaine-syringe that was used by her which looks exactly like the one in „The Abominable Bride“ ). See - all roads really lead to BC ☺️

Has anyone else watched the new Pinocchio on Netflix? I think I’m the only person who didn’t like it! From the reviews, you’d think it was the best movie ever made - and I’m truly shocked. The animation stuff was amazing, but the movie just wasn’t good. It reminded me a lot of the AI (Artificial Intelligence) movie from years ago, but I don’t remember the Pinocchio story being science-fiction. Weird!

I haven't watched it and don't intend to because I read the original book and found it cynical and sinister at its heart. I didn't like the political and social values (like its anti-intellectualism) it was imparting behind the disguise of a children's story.
I really found the book distasteful.

IMHO it’s a good film. It’s dark but it’s not cynical nor sinister like the original book. It totally goes for the sentimentalism of the Disney version. The ending is genuinely moving but I hated the songs and the Fascism background didn’t went anywhere! I thought it would be more relevant to the plot!
EDITED I love AI! It was obviously inspired on Pinocchio!

I did read one Pinocchio review that complained that the movie was ugly - and I have to agree. They made the main colour brown, which is dreary, even if there are more cheerful scenes.
But two things in particular really, really bugged me, and if I had liked the movie those things probably wouldn’t have mattered at all.
First, the way Geppetto carved Pinocchio made no sense. He was described as a carpenter, so he knew how to use carpentry tools. But then they showed us that he had also carved a massive crucifix for the church, so he was an artist, too. That crucifix was so life-like that it didn’t even fit into a movie where all the people look like caricatures. In any case, if Geppetto had the skills for that crucifix, why couldn’t he make Pinocchio life-like, too? Or why didn’t he at least make him look like his dead son, Carlo? Why did he make him a marionette?
And the other thing that bothered me a lot was the way they pronounced “Papà”. I only heard it pronounced properly twice, and the rest of the time I sat there cringing. It’s unfortunate because I was ok with the combination of various British accents and Italian accents. And even when Italian was spoken by a character, it was perfect. But Papà (meaning dad or daddy), has the emphasis on the second syllable - hence the accent over the “à”. The word Papa without the accent has the emphasis on the first syllable, and refers to the pope! And that’s the way they said it all through the movie! Every time Carlo or Pinocchio called Geppetto, he was calling him Pope! I wanted to scream! With so much attention to detail in the movie, how did they miss this? I understand that this won’t be an issue when Netflix dubs the movie into Italian because they’ll have actually Italians speaking and pronouncing everything properly. But I just couldn’t look past it.

I didn't like the political and social values (like its anti-intellectualism) it was imparting behind the disguise of a children's story. I really found the book distasteful. I think my first contact with Pinocchio was through my grandfather who read it to us. The book was old because it was from my mother and her siblings and perhaps older. It was a big book and I remember the images which perhaps were the original or copied from them. I remember reading or trying to read the book by myself. I had to be very young because I struggled with it and there were parts of the story I didn't get and that made me uneasy and literally nauseated. I never tried to read it when I was older. Perhaps I should read it now and find what made me a little sick. IMHO it’s a good film. It’s dark but it’s not cynical nor sinister like the original book. It totally goes for the sentimentalism of the Disney version. The ending is genuinely moving but I hated the songs and the Fascism background didn’t went anywhere! BDT was on Fallon the other night and brought out the two amazing puppets they used to make the stop motion. They were really incredible and BDT moved them around a bit and smooshed the face of Gepetto to show how it’s done. I appreciate the craftsmanship and I love BDT for who he is, but I have to say I don’t really like his films very much. Why does he have a thing about bashing in people’s faces?
Anyway It’s on my list and I’ll undertake at some point. Parts of it seem very sad.
Also I have to say (only remotely connected to this discussion), I loved Peter Pan as a kid and went to see it when I was in my 30s or 40s and hated it! Peter was a spoiled brat and bossed Wendy around something terrible. Entitled little shit, lol. Truly an expose of the male ego, even if he was only supposed to be “childlike” and innocent. Are all little boys like that?
