I’m glad that this movie is still going to happen!

Me, too! A bunch of people on twitter have been complaining (slightly) about it, saying it looks boring, but I think it’s going to be fun and different.

TBH for me this is the less interesting sounding movie he is attached to.
Of course, this is totally based on the descriptions of the plot on movie news sites and it could change if they hire a major filmmaker to helm it, for example. But until now, we have a character that sounds very similar to his character in Ironbark: a real life "hero" that most probably lied about his achievements. In the case of the guy in this film, it seems he completely lied about them!
It also, until now, sounds like the typical project a British movie star would do! I enjoy much more the prospect of taking some risks and he doing the unexpected. As he and Sunny March did with The Child in Time and Patrick Melrose. Ironbark sounds more conventional but it's understandable that they want to do something with his friend Dominic Cooke. I was initially not very happy with Louis Wain until I read about Will Sharpe. I still haven't seen anything by him but the descriptions of his style seems fascinating: a kind of mix of Wes Anderson and Woody Allen with some very dark sense of humor influenced by crazy Japanese comedies! There's also the rumor of some kind of animation included in the film! Sounds mad! It still can be a typical BBC style bio by numbers but there's at least the hope of something different. We will see what happens with this!
Also it would be interesting to know when they plan to do this. We know BC should do next both Prisoner 760 and The Power of the Dog. He should be free around March or April but I am guessing he would begin with Dr. Strange sequel in May or June and that film should have a massive schedule. Marvel movies principal photography last around six months so the shooting should have him busy for the rest of the year! The only window in his schedule is very early next year but I'm not considering the time to physically preparing himself for the superhero role (although the last time he apparently did gym work at the same time he was playing Hamlet at the Barbican so he has the stamina to do two projects at the same time!)

As I’ve mentioned before, I read about The War Magician many years ago. At the time, Tom Cruise was going to make the movie and star in it. The story is fascinating and hilarious (and hard to believe!), and the character is nothing at all like Ironbark - other than taking place during the war.

It depends on how they adapt them. They can take the story seriously or do a comedy. I much prefer the last option, of course! The story ridiculous!
I think they could be similar if they present both of them as they saw themselves. I hope neither of the projects do that and they show they both tended to exaggerate their achievements in different degrees! Wayne was actually there and did something heroic before writing books fulls of lies about how he was very heroic!
Then there is also another superficial similarities with other stuff: another bio, another magitian, another war film. Again, neither of these things would matter to me if I knew for sure that there is a great filmmaker behind it or a killer script, etc. Until know it sounds like something that its typical offered to not just BC but Colin Firth or Eddie Redmayne or any other British actors that it's not just doing franchise material. Nothing wrong with that but I understand why not everyone is excited for it in the same way they are for other projects that sound much more original and new for actors like him. I would like to see him to work with more auteur filmmakers as Jane Campion, for example.
I remember I read at the time that the reason Tom Cruise left the project was because he discovered the "story" described on the script was a fraud and he wasn't the hero he thought he was. If that is true then I guess that script (a different one to this project) took very seriously the character! That would be a huge error, in my opinion! Because yes, the story is not just fake but ridiculous! It should work much better as comedy!

I think the story sounds so interesting, I am excited about it. And very different than BC's usual "real" heroes taken seriously. I've always wished he would do a comedy, and however they adapt this, it will have funny scenes. We know from Cabin Pressure that he is great at it, but the general public doesn't.

I’m so happy about this movie finally being made! I’ve been waiting for years for it to happen, and to have Benedict in it makes it even more exciting!

TBH this is the least exciting sounding project to me. I hope it's a comedy and not a drama as it's described there because well, most probably it's not a real life story but a big fraud and the story was always kind of wacky. It should work better as a crazy comedy!
Also it's intriguing that they hired an established Hollywood director. It says he is producing it, too and that his company is in the UK. I haven't watched his Jurassic Park movies. He also has an early acclaimed indie film and a repudiated drama with Naomi Watts. The rest is just pure Jurassic Park!
