I don't care for this movie.
Gary Whitta says it's a great story.

The story is indeed bonkers and could make an interesting comedic film. My main worry is that apparently in the past, people like Tom Cruise took it seriously and was disappointed when he discovered it was obviously a fraudulent "real life" story. I know! He is a scientologist so probably he is very easy to fool but a "drama" about this story sounds insane!
Some of the comments about this film being a "BC's greatest hits" or an algorithm writing a film based in his past movies are funny but a big correction: he actually hasn't made a lot of World War 2 movies! He did a docu TV movie about Dunkirk before Nolan did his movie and, there's TIG, of course, but at least they are counting Small Island (not directly about the war and for TV.. and almost unknown!) or Atonement (his character isn't in the war scenes plotline), they are thinking in World War I! Sorry, I'm an Historian!
I liked the tweet saying he hearing about fighting the Nazis and immediately say yes, tho.!

But it was a true story and he was a real magician! He just exaggerated about his accomplishments and lied about how helpful he had been during the war. Even if a tiny bit of the story is true - that magicians were actually recruited to create illusions to trick the enemy - it’s still a fascinating story.
I was reminded of the War Magician while I was reading an article last week (I think) about how artists had played an important part during some war (I don’t remember which). Apparently, artists were able to camouflage the rooftop of a building, so that anyone in a plane flying over would think it was a row of little houses.
When 1917 came out, didn’t some people complain that that here was another war movie! They figured that every story about war has already been told by now. So why not tell a story about a magician?

Anyone who thinks that every story has been told about war has already been told should be made to watch the videos (and there are plenty audio only broadcasts as well) of Mark Felton!
He is a British YouTuber, author, and historian of the Second World War. He has written over 20 books and posted nearly 400 history shorts on YouTube. And believe you me since covid Dan and I have watched about half of them and he specializes in really quirky stories that mainly centre around WWII but he also covers WWI and a few from other era's. Dan has been a student of WWI AND WWII most of his life (he was reading pilot biographies from WWI since he was about 10 years old) and he's greatly impressed by these unusual, offbeat, and very unique stories. Really well researched and highly entertaining I could see many of them making fascinating movies.

Ooh! Didn't BC once mention he would love to meet her, or work with her, or something? Maybe she will get a part in this!

The English language is going to pot nowadays, such a treat to actually see good grammar. 👍

Lol. Thanks, dickens. But the ugly truth is that my English is bad but my Spanish is competent and in Spanish the "h" is always mute so I automatically think in "an" instead of "a" when I see an "h"!

Your English is great! What I’ve noticed, after spending so much time online, is that people who speak English as their first language are the ones who use the worst grammar and spelling. The mistakes in using a second language don’t matter at all. We still understand what you’re saying!

It's always been 'an Historian' but you don't sound the 'h.' as in 'an hotel.' My grammar leaves a lot to be desired, which is shameful. So many people insist on saying 'can I' when it should be 'may I.' If my grandchildren - or anyone for that matter- asks 'can I have some more?' Dear old granny replies, 'I don't know, can you?' I have become a dreadful bore on the subject!
