For those of you in the U.S., TNT is running all three "Hobbit" movies today, starting at 1:00 p.m. (10 hours' worth!)

Hurray! Our first guest! Welcome, Patty. Re The Hobbit I'm not in the US and I have to confess I am not a fan, except, strangely, for Smaug's scenes. But thank you!

Hi, Magda. I don't know yet how much I'll be reading this board, but if I find myself doing so frequently, I'll go ahead and register. Looks like you've attracted many of the core participants from the BC board on IMDb. Thanks for doing this. And yes, I understand if you only want to watch Smaug's scenes in the trilogy. :-)

There is no problem with posting as a guest. I still don't know which differences are for posting between members and guests.
Some people are on fb also. I prefer this format.

Okay, I’m watching the middle one, and it is deadly dull. *yawn* Smaug just showed up, so at least now I have BC’s voice to think about.

I know what you mean - I was so worried that I’d fall asleep during the movie that I went to a matinee to see it, and even then I checked my watch every few minutes to see if it was almost over. The things I do for Benedict! I’ve told this before, but my worst experience was watching Lord of the Rings. It was 3 (or 4?) hours of pure torture. It was the closest I’ve ever come to screaming out loud in a movie theatre.

Lol! I loved LotR. Peter Jackson really missed in the hobbit series, tho. He should have made 1 sharp &funny 3 hour movie. Moved the action along faster and stopped all the slow pondering, “enemies are arising in the north, this world is doomed,” dialog. I’m afraid he drank his own Kool-aid after LotR.
So, I’m cheering myself up with Scandal in Belgravia. 😁 God Ben looked fabulous.

I agree! That is by far the best looking of all the episodes. The camera person person, lighting person, hair and makeup person, cinematographer really worked their magic! Every shot of Benedict is stunning.
The episode comes to mind every time we get a sudden rainstorm in the middle of the day. At the end of Scandal, after John has met with Mycroft and they agree to lie to Sherlock and tell him that Irene Adler is in witness protection, John goes up to give Sherlock the news. We’ve already seen that it’s raining out, but how many shows make it look like that indoors? Inside the apartment it’s dark and gloomy because of the rain, and there are just a few lamps on. That’s exactly what it looks like inside when there’s a rainstorm. The attention to detail is amazing! They captured the look and feel so well, and it’s part of what makes this one of my top 2 episodes.

Remember all those interviews Benedict did when he was promoting his Smaug performance - all those times he interrupted the interviewers to say “and I did the motion capture!”? Ha!
