From The Guardian - www.theguardian.com/media/2018/may/16/benedict-cumberbatch-to-play-vote-leave-dominic-cummings-channel-4-brexit-dramaExcerpts - "Benedict Cumberbatch is to portray the mastermind of the Brexit campaign in a new Channel 4 drama about the EU referendum. The star of Sherlock and Patrick Melrose will take on the role of Dominic Cummings, the former Michael Gove adviser who led Vote Leave to victory in 2016. The film, due to air early next year shortly before Britain leaves the EU in March, will be written by James Graham, who has won awards for his political plays such as This House and Ink. The TV production, partly based on books written by the Sunday Times political editor, Tim Shipman, and the former Downing Street director of communications Craig Oliver, is likely to examine how Cummings led Vote Leave to victory against the odds while having a sometimes tempestuous relationship with those around him. Cummings’ involvement in the Brexit campaign is still being examined by authorities, with MPs formally requesting the former Vote Leave strategist appears in front of a select committee to answer questions, while the Electoral Commission is investigating whether his campaign broke spending rules." This man just never stops. 😎 and he never stops surprising! :-))

And here's the Deadline version of the story - deadline.com/2018/05/benedict-cumberbatch-to-star-in-british-brexit-drama-for-channel-4-1202392087/Excerpts... "Benedict Cumberbatch is to star in a Brexit drama for Channel 4 from Tessa Ross and Juliette Howell’s House Productions. The Doctor Strange actor, who is currently starring in Showtime and Sky drama Patrick Melrose, will front Brexit (w/t), a political thriller written by playwright James Graham, best known for political plays such as The Vote, as well as recently Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? play Quiz. Cumberbatch will star as Dominic Cummings, the leading strategist and Campaign Director of Vote Leave. The one-off drama will unpacking the anatomy of the historic, high-stakes campaign to win the hearts and minds of the British people and will be directed by Black Mirror’s Toby Haynes. It was commissioned by C4’s Head of Drama Beth Willis and is exec produced by Howell and Ross and produced by Lynn Horsford. It will begin shooting later this year. Graham says: “I’m so excited – not to mention a little nervous – to have this chance to try and get under the skin of what happened during that historic vote. I hope by going behind-the-scenes of the campaign, we’re able to interrogate the consequences of what happened during these 8 weeks that have changed the country forever. To work with this incredible team and Channel 4 to bring this story to life on screen is a real honour.” Willis adds, “James’ whip smart, funny and insightful writing is a breath of fresh air. We are so thrilled that he and the genius that is Benedict Cumberbatch feel Channel 4 is the right home for it – Brexit is exactly the kind of explosive and illuminating drama we want to have on the channel.” :-))

Here is the Independent's version - m.independent.ie/entertainment/benedict-cumberbatch-to-star-as-vote-leave-mastermind-dominic-cummings-36912462.htmlExcerpts - "Benedict Cumberbatch will star as Vote Leave’s leading strategist in an “explosive and illuminating” Channel 4 drama about the data-driven political campaign for Brexit. The political thriller will be set mostly during the EU referendum. The one-off drama will explore the “myriad tactics employed to swing one of the most surprising referendum results in living memory”. Cumberbatch stars as Dominic Cummings, the leading strategist and campaign director of Vote Leave, in the drama, to begin shooting later this year. The drama was announced amid controversy over the political impact of data-mining, with investigations examining possible links between Vote Leave’s campaign and data companies. Brexit (working title) will explore the “anatomy of a modern data-driven election campaign, and the divisive figures driving it from the shadows”. Writer James Graham, whose credits include The Vote, Tory Boyz and Coalition, said: “I’m so excited – not to mention a little nervous – to have this chance to try and get under the skin of what happened during that historic vote. “I hope by going behind-the-scenes of the campaign, we’re able to interrogate the consequences of what happened during these eight weeks that have changed the country forever. “To work with this incredible team and Channel 4 to bring this story to life on screen is a real honour.” The drama will be directed by Toby Haynes, whose credits include Black Mirror, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell and Sherlock. Executive producers Juliette Howell and Tessa Ross said: “We are thrilled to have Benedict at the centre of James’s brilliant, searching response to the Brexit vote. “James is a writer who is unafraid to ask difficult questions and has never stopped looking for uncomfortable truths at this complicated time in our history. And we’re hugely excited that Toby Haynes will be directing this film for Channel 4.” :-))

The director is the fellow who did "The Reichenbach Fall" for Sherlock, Toby Haynes.
The other thing I noticed is that this is not a SunnyMarch production.

The director also did the Black Mirror episode USS Callister, which everyone loved so much.
I was kind of looking forward to a musical or horror movie, but I suppose a political thriller will be ok too! And we'll likely get to see Benedict with a new hairstyle, so that's always exciting.

He mentioned a political drama when asked about what he wanted to do! Funnily the "musical or horror movie" were the ones that become viral even if you read them in context were mentioned in a very random way!
I'm waiting now for the Paul Thomas Anderson movie...😉
