Now The Guardian posted an article about why this will fail! It says no one wants to watch a serious/factual drama about Brexit. It says the movie by the crazies sound more entertaining ("straight-to-video", "maybe starring Steve Segal!" Ok, that made me laugh!). And yes, they have a point that like The Fifth Estate is not a finished issue but the scriptwriter is specialized in very contemporary ongoing political themes and hopefully it would be better than TFE.
My question is why they write opinion pieces about things that haven't happen yet? I know it's The Guardian and their opinion pieces are the craziest on Earth do this is nothing but why someone wants to predict the future like that! I guess they have to write about something!
Ironically the guy who commissioned on Channel 4 used to work for The Guardian. He was actually played by Dan Stevens in The Fifth Estate, which it's kind of funny! Anyway we will see! It sounds interesting to me but I like political stuff!

Also the summary suggests this an ensamble thing. It's not about Dominic Cummings but about the TWO campaigns. One of James Graham recents play, which was transmitted on TV and about the 2015 election, was starred by Judi French, Jude Law, Mark Gatiss, Kit Harrington, Catherine Tate and a lot of other people. I wonder if they will announce more big names for this, too. I doubt this will be a Cumberbatch show.

I've only just seen this, but it will be a near certainty for the relatively near future if it's been announced already. There's not the same sort of uncertainty there is with the film projects.
I find political dramas interesting too, albeit that, yes, this will have to be an ensemble piece. And I must admit I metaphorically checked that it wasn't April Fool's Day before believing the news of it. I'm still appalled at the insanity of the Brexit decision, myself, though, and I'm not sure that a dramatisation to remind one of how the travesty was brought about is going to be preferred viewing.
And BC, of course, was himself very much a proponent of staying in the EU, yet will now be playing the arch Brexiteer. Or is the purpose of this to throw more shade over the process in the (not going to happen) hope that the decision can still be reversed?

I think they want to air it the day the UK will pulling out of the European Union. They did something similar with the play I mentioned above. They aired it on the same day of the 2015 election and that was the theme of the play.

This is something I completely understand why he’s doing it. It’s an acting challenge, not an endorsement. He believes so strongly that Brexit is wrong, yet wants to portray someone who thinks it’s a good thing. Talk about a challenge!

There were a lot of tweeters yesterday upset that Benedict would be making a movie "celebrating" this Dominic person that they all hate - "How could you do this?", most seemed to be asking. I think the tweets were in response to an article, because several people suggested that everyone read the article before posting angry tweets.

It just baffles the imagination that people such as this could consider themselves so socially “aware” and yet not understand something so simple as why BC took this role! Honestly, they sound like they are totally disconnected from reality when they do this. I guess that’s the internet for you! :-~~ Dan and I just watched a segment from Real Time with Bill Maher which I think sums up my irritations with the internet culture —

I'm not a fan of Bill Maher, and I think he's the last person who should be criticizing people who complain about a movie! He's made an entire comedy career out of complaining, but others aren't allowed to do it, too?
There were a lot of much better examples he could have used to make his point, so defending such a dumb movie makes him sound like an idiot. It's clear that he was only backing up fellow comedian Amy Schumer. The I Feel Pretty trailer alone made it look like a terrible movie, so why can't I say so? And why can't I feel a bit angry that one of the few movies made by a woman is about something so stupid? She has the money and the clout, and possibly the talent, to make a movie about something more than a woman's appearance. Do I have unreasonable expectations from her? Maybe!
