Ha! Someone on Twitter yesterday gave it as the answer to the question "What was the worst movie you ever paid to see?"
But that's ok! As long as I know that it's a perfect movie, that's all that matters!

Or, they are familiar with his ability to make unlikable characters sympathetic and charismatic. I suppose that is possible, but I'm sure he can portray this man accurately!

I'm sure there's a place for both movies - one now, and one 50 years from now. It will just be from a different perspective.
People magazine is famous for admitting that one of the biggest mistakes they ever made was not putting Elvis Presley on their cover when he died. They thought it would be in poor taste, with the death being so recent, so they put someone else on the cover instead. They missed out on their part in history: writing about people was the whole point of the magazine!

I notice with amusement that he is now pigeonholed into two roles. At least it's better than just one:

He sidetracked the question, though. I am all for ambitious TV projects, but with The Current War being withdrawn from distribution, and now Rio becoming more and more LCOZ-ish, we haven't seen him in a big movie project since The Imitation Game in 2014! (of course Marvel is big, but it is another kind of movie and dr Strange was in 2016, as well.

(of course Marvel is big, but it is another kind of movie and dr Strange was in 2016, as well. I don't get what there is to have a frown about. I think it is perfectly understandable for him to be charting this course at this moment in his life, what with his family being so young. He has said repeatedly in a number of interviews that he doesn't want to go for any projects that makes it difficult to have his family with him as much as possible. Big movie projects often require location shooting that might make it hard to bring his family with him and he obviously isn't prepared to do that. It's his life and he wants to prioritise it this way, so how can that be something to be sad about? He isn't just a "movie making macine" churning out thing to entertain us. He is first and foremost a person with a real life and family and it seems perfectly understandable that he would prioritize things differently at different stages of his life. Besides it isn't like he is being idle. He is VERY active with SunnyMarch projects,TV projects and voice work so what's the problem? So it isn't like he is not being seen in things. Patrick Melrose and The Child in Time were very recent and highly respected and worthwhile projects. Letters Live keeps him in touch with live audiences (without the time consumption of doing a stage run). He obviously wants to explore being a producer more... and even maybe direct?? That would be interesting, I think. Are you implying only big movie projects are important? Or that he is being "shunned" by the major players and not being offered "big" roles? Except Avengers:Infinity War was a "big movie" type role, with tons of promotions and publicity, and even if it wasn't your kind of movie (it wasn't mine either) it still counts just as much in his career. There isn't really any reason that I can see to put parentheses around it. And it was (and probably is still) an on-going contractual project, so it takes time to fulfill that Marvel one. And I don't think he sidetracked the question. He said the Brexit project had a brilliant script and that is what was important to his decision with going for it (that and the unstated fact that he also gets to do this very close to home and hearth). So where's the downside in all of this?? Perhaps you could clarify your apprehensions further, because I don't see anything to be worried about here at all. :-))

I add that even when I'd like him to work with good/known directors I wouldn't mind if he decides to work only on tv if the results are as TCiT and Patrick Melrose. Patrick Melrose is excellent in every aspect and is like watching 5 excellent movies. I didn't expect such results from SunnyMarch so soon. Many known movie actors and director are going into tv. In many aspects tv is now better than cinema.

If I may add, it’s no slouch to be starring in the biggest movie on the planet. And MVP at that. 😍
