The thing is that biggest doesn't necessarily equate to greatest. Haha. I didn't watch IW either and I understand why miriel68 didn't mention it. I'm waiting for the video with all Doctor Strange scenes (like the Smaug one).

I don't get what there is to have a frown about. I think it is perfectly understandable for him to be charting this course at this moment in his life, what with his family being so young. He has said repeatedly in a number of interviews that he doesn't want to go for any projects that makes it difficult to have his family with him as much as possible. While his love for the family is admirable, I don't think it is a deterrent for doing interesting projects: he has been filming in Nepal and in U.S, went to Asia for the promotion of Avengers. And Rio was scheduled to be filmed in Sri Lanka if I remember right. I don't imply he is idle and I don't imply he is not doing interesting projects. Patrick Melrose is sensational, probably his best thing so far. I also don't imply that "only" big movies are important. But yes, I do think they are important for him staying in the top game and for getting juicy offers. And it is not like he is not searching for them: The Current War, Rio both seemed like important international big profile productions. Yet he seems rather unlucky with these projects and has to create his own opportunities, which again, he does very well. I am probably just frustrated because he hasn't been filming anything for almost 6 months and once PM is finished we likely won't see him on the screen for a year if not more. (yes, yes, I know there is Mowgli and Grinch, but don't ask me to be superexcited about them)

But IW was a waste of his talent, IMO, only good for promotion. I would love to see him again in a project like the Imitation Game.

It’s funny because as I mentioned the other day, I saw comments by a very few uber-Fassbender/Hiddleston fans moaning that BC was apparently “stealing” all the roles to their “more talented”, “more deserving” favorites! And yes, it was after this was announced. Ironbark was also on the press because it was selling really well at Cannes market and of course there were early raves about Patrick Melrose. The point is they were desperate because there weren’t/aren’t too many announcements about films/TV projects with their idols! Just Cumberbatch this and Cumberbatch that!
But I understand, we will have to wait until his next interesting non-child oriented project but hey, at least we have announcements!

I'm not at all worried about his career choices. He has explained many times what he looks for in a new project - good script, challenging, something different - and now it also can't take him away from his family for too long. I'm sure there are other criteria that he doesn't share with us, such as money or awards potential, but he's been very consistent over the years and he hasn't given me any reason to doubt him. And if I have to suffer through a superhero movie just to get a glimpse of him, I'm willing to do it!

Well, I'm going on what BC said himself (when referring to doing stage drama at this time and what happened with LCOZ, etc.) so I am going to assume when he rejected what may sound to you like an interesting project and the reasons cited were "family considerations" I'm going to say I believe him, because for me, he is in possession of many more factors than what I have gleaned for the media. I also think as his family grows and ages the dynamics change and so do his requirements as to the "considerations" that need to be met for him.
Maybe conditions were such that he could go to Nepal at that time and not disrupt his family too much?
Filming in the US? I think he brought his family with him to Atlanta for that stretch (at least there were multiple tweets sighting them and the only people that I saw doubting this were Haters). As for the Asia tour it was relatively short really and once he got the US, Sophie and the kids were with him.
"Rio" is supposed to be filmed in Sri Lanka, that's true, but It doesn't have a schedule yet so no one knows how long he will be on location or if his family will be accommodated.

Super hero movies aren't in my wheelhouse but I don't see anything wrong with him doing them at all. One the most interesting things he could do as far as I am concerned is stage work and I will probably NEVER have a chance in hell of ever seeing him in anything on the stage, but I can't wait to hear of the moment when is able to tread the boards again!! It's all work as far as I am concerned and the more he is doing things that interest him and accommodate his needs (whatever they may be) it's OK with me. :-))

I just woke up and saw this. People are hysterics on Twitter. But I actually like it! It looks natural and real, not like the first photo of he as Julian Assange. I actually thought it was Hugo Weaving! And then when noticed his features, I thought it was some fan art related to Patrick Melrose! I’m just waking up!

If that photo is real, an it seems it’s, I guess this is the next project.

I actually thought it was Hugo Weaving! The first one I saw was the one posted by cumberbuddy and I thought she was comparing BC with Weaving and I searched for a manip.
