Are there people who have met BC and DON’T like him? 😉

Interesting considering that it bombed at the box office at the time!

Maybe the movie was better known in the UK, where they’re doing the play.
Benedict had all the funniest scenes in the movie, so I wonder how that will come across with a different actor.

Is David Nichols adapting his book/screenplay? It has a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and is well considered, although I tend to fast forward through the non-BC parts. I can’t imagine a different actor being able to do so well as BC did. He absolutely stole that film! ☺️

It was very well received by critics but it actually wasn’t very successful at the box office. Tom Hanks was the produced, by the way, www.refinery29.com/en-us/2013/12/58248/tom-hanks-benedict-cumberbatchI have always said that you kinda feel bad for BC’s character at the end even when he is presented as a kinda villainous buffoon at the beginning and on the other hand, I totally hated James McAvoy at the end. I couldn’t believe the movie was asking for sympathy for that cheater just because he was “working class”! Well, call me crazy but I think there are working class people who aren’t cheaters! So working class cheaters doesn’t need more sympathy than non-working class cheaters!

That ending just showed his true character - a morally ambiguous person who was unable to resist temptation, both with the Alice Eve character and with the quiz results. He was young and made bad decisions like most young people do. I didn’t put it down to his class (he was raised better than that), I put it down to his character. Your mileage may vary. 😉
Which is a good case why we need a SEQUEL. Modern day, they’re all grown up and married with kids - James’ character and BC’s live in the same town and teach at the local uni, still having milder types of rivalries. They get a chance to “redo” their loss from 20 years ago and take it. James has grown as a person and so has BC, but still with vestiges of their old quirks. Mark Gatiss can even return as the quiz moderator. 😃

Every line Benedict says in the movie is gold, but my favourites are:
“Let’s just crack on, shall we?” And “Stab, stab, stab” In fact, every time I hear or read the word “stab”, I think of Benedict’s “Stab, stab, stab”. Ha!
